keeping the clutch cool with antifreeze..help!

after driving home last week I parked the old girl in the driveway... I got out to the lovely sound of coolant/oil splashing on the ground. not good.

after parking it in the garage I finally got a chance to look at it. Well I sort of looked at it... I removed the bottom cover on the bell housing and was suprised to be soaked in oil and coolant. ALOT of coolant and an alarming amount of oil. I then drained the oil to see if it was also full of coolant, but it looked ok. I also checked the tranny fluid and it was still full of oil.

I suspect I have a rear main seal problem, but riddle me this batman... where is all this coolant coming from?

break it to me easy I'm fragile right now.

I have discovered a minor leak at the heater hose where it splits and the rear heater hose attaches... it drips down the line under the truck. Possibly while at speed it splashes over to the bellhousing. I'll have to check the freeze plugs later tonight if I get a chance.

Funny thing you mention the heater hose spraying..I had that happen yesterday on my DD Tercel. Got it fixed right away.

Coolant leak think rotten old rubber, hose on the nose. Won't hurt to check the plugs also.

I had a very hard to find coolant leak in the tiny hose on the driver's side, behind the throttle linkage support. I would have to add a small amount of coolant every few weeks and finally found the source when I was installing the H55f! It's a 1/2 hose, unlike the others which are 5/8. Very easy to overlook, because you don't know it's there and it's a hard one to change. When it leaks, it drips down over the bellhousing. Otherwise the coolant plugs sound like a good guess.
