I have read previously that the Kaymar rear wheel carrier fitting instructions aren't 100% correct. Can somebody show (or send) me the fitting instructions and also let me know what needs to be corrected?

I bought a used Kaymay rear wheel carrier (as new) but I don't have any fitting instructions. This is the one that fits the standard rear bumper on the LHS (US Drivers side, Aussie passenger side).

Thanks in advance!

I have the very same tire carrier and you heard correctly, the instructions leave a lot to be desired. I don't recall anything too difficult once you get into it. You will need to remove the passengers side mud flap and bumperette. The bumperette will also require two holes drilled in it. The bottom brace bolts to the frame through factory bolt holes. Other than the install, something you may want to think about is this; the carrier is not powder coated and the piece that bolts to the frame will rust very quickly if you are in an area that uses salt on the roads in the winter. I just had mine sandblasted after only two years on the truck. I will be coating it with POR15 and putting it back on this weekend. make sure the bearings are well greased too.

Thank you both very much for the info.

I have saved your write-up as a PDF file for future quick reference, thanks again Beno.

I have one on my Cruiser that I fitted and I did one for the BIL and had no probs. What part of QLD are you. If you are are local I can lend a Hand or advice if needed.

I'm in Maryborough, Aussie Cruiser. Thanks for the offer.

One of the photos that Beno referred to helped me a lot. Once I 'got my head around' the orientation of the main support bracket I was ok.

The only problem that I have now is that the factory towbar mount covers one of the 'wheel carrier' mounting holes. I assume that I will need to drill thru the towbar mount so that the bolt will go thru the wheel carrier mount AND the towbar mount. It looks like the bolt that has the long piece of wire welded to it is used here. Does this sound right to you, Aussie Cruiser?

I see that you also have the 'part time' kit installed on your cruiser. I recently recieved the Aisin free-wheeling hubs and will soon buy the rest of the kit. I'll do that mod in the near future. Just a bit of a shame that I will lose my ABS system!

yes you do have to drill through the tow bar mount. Also where the carrier bracket fit between the tow bar and the chassis you will need to remove the spacer if it has one. Simple job just grind off the weld.

The bolt with the wire is for this from memory. it works allright to feed it inside the chassis rail.

When i got the part time kit it came with hubs supplied.

Can the part time kit be fitted to an ABS vehicle legally. Might be good idea to check with DOT
