Simple 10 minute addition to give me more camping storage when the pups are in the back. If you’re running out of space, I think it’s worth it. The only thing I may change is getting black hardware. I didn’t put the handles back on so I’m stuck with stock hardware sticking out like a sore thumb.

I dig that shelf, but $275 is a hard pill to swallow.
I don’t disagree. I’m just so use to tons of space on a full size truck that I need all the storage I can get. Pups still fit, but It’s getting closer to pulling the third row and getting kennels. Red one is constantly getting carsick, which I think is anxiety. Thank god for not feeding her beforehand and having lots of covering.

I like it too, could see it being very useful to hang stuff from, throw some spare winter blankets up there and other gear. I'm with Donny though, wish it was a bit cheaper, looks like a quality unit though.

Which rack is this? Can you post a link? thanks!

I have it too. It's great when a product is designed for your vehicle. For once I didn't have to hack things up to get it to fit the gx.

this is pricey but it’s worth it. I have been using an attic net in my gx meant for a 5th gen 4runner. while it works, i had to modify it and still not happy

I plan to install one, great use of either wise mostly wasted space.

Was the price U.S. or Aussie dollars?
If it was Australian, that would .28¢ per $1.00 less!
Or simply: $190.96 US + shipping

That is in AUD, it coverts when you pay, so yes it's a little over $200 shipped here to the states. Not a bad deal IMHO.

I got the shelf installed. it replaced an ill fitting attic net i had from a 5th gen 4runner. I can finally see out of the back window again. Just as always, Kaon stuff fits perfectly and high quality. I opted to reinstall the handles so I don’t have to store them in the garage somewhere.

80 Series guy here. Many of us use simple retail shelving and hose clamps. That's what I did, all told it was under twenty bucks.

YMMV, and that Kaon rack is certainly a lot nicer looking than mine.

A few questions for those that have it installed:
  • Would I be able to hold my fishing rods some way on the bottom of this rack?
  • What is the opening in the GX? On their website it says 150mm = 5.9" but not sure if that translates into GX measurements.
  • I would also like to add a paper towel holder which looks possible.

My plan for one of its intended uses is to have it hold my fishing rods as well, simply slide the rod itself through the basket opening on the front and let the handle end and reel sit in the shelf itself. Hopefully it works out as planned, otherwise you'll have to suspend them below.

I thought about sliding them through, but I have rod socks on em. However My biggest issue would be breaking the guides trying to feed it through. I know it’ll happen and I’ll be cursing up a storm

I have the nylon mesh rod covers that stretch, they protect very well, shouldn't be an issue feeding them through with those. I just wouldn't get in a habit of pushing them in quickly or yanking them out in order to avoid broken guides.

Did both of your brackets sit on the outside of the shelf?

I installed mine this evening and one one side of the bracket sits on the outside of the shelf and the other side is on the inside of the shelf.

The Kaon install video has them sitting on the outside. Pictures are from their install video.

Edit: For those curious, I put the bolt head inside where the threads are facing towards the window. I figure it’ll be a cleaner look and less issues for anything to snag on the longer threaded side.

I just took a look and one side of the bracket sits inside and the other outside. I didn't notice it during install. No issues so far. If you go off road often, maybe use some blue loctite.

On another note, I installed my shelf at the highest setting, i'm going to try the lowest setting to allow for more room. Hopefully it doesn't interfere with the rear view mirror view.
