Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has any experiance with a K&N cold air intake http://www.performancecenter.com/pr.../0/Toyota/1999/Landcruiser/4.7L?brandname=K&N or a throttle body spacer such as this http://www.performanceproducts4trucks.com/productpage.aspx?cid=17&sid=246&pid=109060? I was looking more for a gain in MPG then a power gain but if I understand correctly an increase in air flow will result in more power, which will result in less gas to get the tank moving. Another question, are there 2 oxygen sensors for each down pipe/cat coverter, 1 before and after the cat (4 total) or just 1 oxygen sensor on each side (2 total)? Any thoughs would be appreciated. jeff

I put in the k n' n on my 99 lc and i wanted to put the throttle body spacer on it to but with the knn pipe it extends out to far and hits the fan so dont buy the spacer, not woth it imo. The knn will improve the sound dramatically and will give you more power but it dosent increase the mpg by any noticable amount. I have my tires filled with nitrogen, k n' n, flowmaster, resignator off, and lucas oil additive and i only get about 11-12 mpg. I expected more, im still have yet to carbon clean the engine. Let me know if this helps

Keep on cruisin

i put k&n on the day i got our 100 and i second the the last post.
have fun and what is mpg any way.:D

Well thats good to know. Can't use both together, so you think the K&N would yield a better performance gain compared to the space?

It's all BS. I have a K&N and a TBS. I bought them both before I knew better.

Then again, I have a few hundred extra pounds of armor now...

I'm considering putting the stock boxes back on.

me too, but i want to put a straight tube from the stock airbox to the throttle body, instead of that mess of plastic that is factory. I would have to get something custom made of course....and we all know how well i follow thru on that kind of thing.

Well from what I picking up from you guys it sound like niether are worth the money. Thanks for the advice, jeff

Pics of one of these installed on the 100 would be great.

The stock airbox already draws from outside the engine compartment.

first of all, its tech. not a "cold air intake" because it doesnt have tubing for a cold intake setup. Its a FIPK err fuel injection performance kit.

heres a picture of mine installed, i have more but uh, thats the one i found first.

as you can see, it DOES straighten airflow from the filter to the TB. I personally want to reinstall my stock airbox so i can draw air from the outside or via a snorkel if i go that route. But i dont want to distrupt the airflow, so i want to get a straight tube made to replace that mess of plastic between the airbox and TB that toyota/lexus gives us.

@ rfj62:

I just saw this thread and have also been interested in putting one of these on my LC since I got it. Did you end up doing it? If so, any thoughts?

I have the Borla and the KN, no mileage increase, maybe a little more power. Just sounds good at WOT

I know many people love this aftermarket filters, but for me, they do not filter as good as a OEM paper filter. Yes, you get an increased airflow, but like with anything, there is a cost. You can't just get a better flowing filter and still want that filter to filter just as well as the factory wanted. There is a tradeoff or the filter has to be really big. I personally want better filtration, I don't want dirt going in my engine. That's a lot more expensive to fix after that:)
