G’day!

New to the world of Landcruisers, I just picked up a 2002 100 series with a 1FZ-FE, I need to sort the intake pipework asap. It seems someone has done a weird pod filter instead of the factory intake pipe.

My big questions are;

Should this have a map or maf? at the moment it Only seems to have an air temp sensor installed in the pod filter. It seems to be running rich which would make sense if it’s missing a critical sensor.

Pretty please help me haha, I have roadworthy coming up and can’t find anything about this anywhere. I am happy to make an intake pipe, I am a fabricator, but I need to know what it requires first!

Also if there are any Aussies in vic, g’day! Haha

i would search local junkyards and get that back to a stock setup ASAP. Those are horrible for a number of reasons, but you're certainly decreasing fuel mileage, and doing damage to your engine bringing in poorly filtered air

You may want to ask on the 80 Series forum here on 'MUD, since the US-spec 100 series was never available with the 1FZ-FE, but that was the engine in the US-spec 80 series from 93-97.

I'm assuming that "roadworthy" is a government inspection of some sort? If so, I doubt that will pass, and I second @excessive opinion that you should try to score the factory air intake and filter assembly before you go though inspection.

100%, let’s not delve into the fact it’s sucking hot air off the exhaust manifold!!!! I’ve purchased the bits yesterday to go back to factory, so it’s gonna look much much much nicer. I went to 9 wreckers yesterday, not one had a Land Cruiser! Weird?

One lady said they had one but they export these engines somewhere so I couldn’t buy the intake pipework, that was sad haha.

I assume it’s only the air temp sensor in the intake on this model as no one has been able to tell me if there is a maf sensor of sorts.

That makes so much sense! Trying to source information in Australia is insanely difficult due to there being so many differences haha! I’ll 100% keep that in mind when posting for engine advice :) Is there somewhere I can post about trying to add cruise control? Would that be better in 100 series or 80 series? Must say, forums kick facebooks arse.

Yeah it is, it’s a requirement for transfer of registration (title papers I think for you guys). I’ve ordered the factory box and pipe work, should be here in two days, which is awesome!
