I’ve been researching these headlights as well. Seems that J.W. Speaker came out with a specific version for Jeeps which is the J2 series and it comes with the H13 plug to match Chrysler’s wiring. The J2 also has the anti flicker filter installed in the housing because Chrysler’s electric system caused major flicker so they incorporated it instead of having a separate box.

The 8700 evolution 2 series has the H4 plug and should be a better set up. Here are the spec sheets for the two:

Well I have flicker big time on hi beam with the 8700 Evo J2. So, the tech guy at Speaker says to run the anti flicker harness. So going to try that.

I wasn’t suggesting you wouldn’t need the flicker harness. I was basically posting for reference on the plug type and what the difference is with the J2.

Frequency noise is a pain and hopefully the harness solves the flicker.

Yes I hope the harness fixes too. Funny thing is the J2 is supposed to have that built in. Speaking with Riley who is also running these lights, he did not need the anti flicker harness on his rig, although he is running the 4.7 Tundra engine in his ‘76. He suggested wiring direct to the high beam from battery to see if flicker is still present. Then using a new line triggered by a relay from high beam circuit from the battery I believe. Anyways when I get up there this coming weekend hopefully I will get it sorted.

Anyone else running these on their 40?

The JW website lists draw at 4.2A on hi beam at 12V and 2.0A on low beam at 12V. Wonder how that compares to the stock Sylvania Halogens??

A 55w bulb should draw about 4.6 amps. W=V•A
So double that is 9.2A . Is the 4.2A for both lights or per light?

SilverStars list as 4.3A draw 55W bulb

How are your new lights with the rock guard grills on? I ask because I have them as well but get this awful shadowing with my new led headlights. Just curious if you have the same problem.

I couldn’t take it, so off came the grill guards, but would have liked to keep them.

I believe that draw is per light. Have not had on long enough to verify grill pattern Jen

Still dealing with flicker on hi beam. So going to try some things this weekend.

I’m pretty sure someone on the forum builds h4 harnesses that are as you described. That’s how mine are wired with my EZ harness with no issues.

I Don’t think you need the anti flicker harness. Jumper them to the battery and see if the still flicker.

OK so the flicker completely stopped! I think the high beam switch on the steering column may have been cruddy. Now I have some anti flicker harnesses that are H13 male to H4 for sale, anyone need some for the older Evo 8700 lamp?

@Aloha Jen next thing will be to take my protector grills off to let them shine at their max!!!
