Just picked up a new to me 85 pickup tonight. The 4R will be my gf's DD and this truck will be mines. The truck runs well and has factory a/c that was installed and works great!! I won't be taking delivery of the truck till Monday but everything is good to go. I can't wait to get it home and work on it. I don't have pics yet of it but have a pic from the previous owner. Any suggestions aside from usual of baselining the fluids and doing the birfs?

Thanks
Steve

Carbed.......Would have be awesome if it was EFI. But overall can't complain. The owner just had the truck smogged tonite w/ no issues. Still won't be able to pick up till Monday.

Adjust valves before you change engine oil, and check the condiiton of your timing chain while you're in there. I always check torque on cylinder head just before adjusting valves, too, just to ensure nothing has losened up.

I've never had a problem with the carb on my '85 (other than it is wearing out the throttle shaft bore and starting to leak, in spite of a rebuild two years ago). I have an '88 with EFI that may get SASed some day, and then I'll be able to compare, but so far the carb has worked just fine on very steep and off camber terrain. At one point I was going to swap the '85 over to EFI, but after considerable reseach and thought, I concluded the benefits did not justify the costs in time, effort, and expense. Analog rules! ; )
