I am no doubt likely making this harder than it needs to be but when I went to add an antenna to my order, I was confronted with more choices than I think there should be. I admit I don't know enough about HAM to be buying equipment. I am studying for my license but I am taking the memorize the 100 answers method to get it done. (Sorry HAM guru's, I realize I am asking for help with something that I should be working harder to understand but there is only so much time in a day and I gotta get this put in so I can use it... :steer:) I am really just looking for better trail comms than I get with my handheld Boafeng. My plan is to mount the antenna on one of my swingouts or maybe my front bumper Aussie style. I do not want it much taller than the roof of my truck.

I've been putting the test off myself for a few years now. We use FRS/GMRS most of the time so I haven't really needed it if I am being honest. My plans were to install the same unit you are purchasing. Interested to see what you come up with.

Called DX Engineering (where I bought the radio) and asked for help. They were super helpful and helped me pick an antenna and mount that works with the FTM-400 and can also be connected to my Baofeng if I wanted to. Added it to my order and it all ships today.
