Hello 70-Series Owners,

Just purchased a JDM 1993 3.0L KZJ78 with a near-death keyless remote. I cannot find the installed receiver (it's not under the drivers seat or dash), and the FOB doesn't have the FCC-ID on it. I need any information on these systems, and answers to questions such as:

Could this be a factory system?
Where are the receivers normally mounted, and could they be installed in the drivers, RHS door?
Who might be able to supply a replacement?
Assuming I can source a remote, what is the reprogramming sequence?
Any LC owners out there seen one of these?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Its probably aftermarket (there are a ton of JDM KZJ78's here in Uganda and I've never seen one with a OEM alarm at least) so the receiver could be anywhere but most likely under the dash somewhere. Have you taken the FOB apart and looked on the underside of the circuit board (thats where the code for mine is anyway). What make is the alarm? - should be on the FOB.

When working on them in Iraq you can find all kinds of random aftermarket (chinese made) electrical systems. The only sure way would be to follow the wires. 99% of all the remote starters are installed the same way so a few mins on google you can find a bunch of PDF files showing the install procedures. So just go backwards from there.

Because the 70 series is a work platform I actually remove the key all together and just install a toggle switch (might not work for everyone) but you can still lock the doors to keep it secure. And out of all cars on the street 70 series must have a low low stolen car ratio. After all they are so ugly only a parent could love it :)

I'm waiting for next yr - our supplier is saying the TLC79 pickup will finally come in the 4.5 turbo for left hand drive here in the middle east.

Looked inside the FOB and no frequency ID at all. In fact, the FOB has no writing or ID at all!

I followed the wires from the Door Control module in the drivers door to the plastic 'kick-plate' at the feet of the driver. There, I found a quick-connect that when disconnected disabled the alarm. Following those wires I found the receiver unit underneath the carpet outboard of the drivers seat! Sadly, no ID on that either!

Now I'll have to replace the receiving unit with some pre-programmed sending units in order to get a keyless remote that is reliable. This unit had only a lock/unlock function, not any of the multiple functions they have today so a straight replacement it may be expensive.

Will write in with the outcome. And thanks for the help!
