That's the first pic I've seen of the rear hatch; the only 250 I've seen in person was a 1958 which didn't have that.
Wow, that's a really poor design decision. No wonder everyone is complaining about the JBL system.
My 1958 has the same sub in the same location. The upper trims just have the additional 2 speakers in the hatch

I would “hope” premium audio means more than just two more speakers. From memory the 1958 has 8, the LC has 10, and the premium & FE have 12.
It's 14 speakers. I can't find any specs yet on the system other than 14 speakers. The Sequoia also has 14 speakers and it's a 1200 watt system according to the JBL + Toyota site.

It remains absurd that so many basic fundamental specifications remain seemingly unknowable.

Always interesting to hear different point of views, I have actually been quite impressed with the JBL system in my premium LC coming from a 4Runner with the upgraded JBL. Night and day difference. My only complaint, is that with the windows down volume has to be in the 40s to really hear it, but thats something the Beat Sonic amp could fix if I wanted to go down that route.

Not sure whether the 1958 has 8. Two in the dash, two in the front doors, two in the rear doors, and I'd be shocked if it actually has a sub in the factory location.

I'm still debating which direction I want to go with it. It will get upgraded eventually, but I may hold off a few months and think about it.

My post was purely off memory, and inaccurate, here is the spec as posted by Toyota online. 14,10, & 6 speakers.

Yeah, I'd buy that. And the ones in the rear doors are terrible. Almost sounds like there is nothing there.

so like an 80 series

Ha. Very similar.

I remember changing the speakers in my 80 series. The spots in the front doors were so shallow that I had to employ the generous use of spacers.

Took delivery of my LC Premium today. I agree the stereo is a little disappointing. It’s crisp and the music sounds accurate. There is no thunderous low end to the system. My Subaru Impreza has more bass response but the quality of sound is better in the LC.

I have similar feelings on it, sound is better than our 4Runner was but there isn’t much bass.

So I played around with mine a little tonight. If I limited the sound to the rear of the vehicle there was near no low end to the system. I could not hear or feel any sound coming from what we are all assuming is the subwoofer in the rear hatch. If I adjusted the sound to just the front of the vehicle there was way more bass. So I search the manuals and paged through the infotainment screens looking for a screen to maybe turn it on? Anyway nothing. So I’m wondering if that is even the sub. My experiment lead me to believe the sub is buried in the center console based on how things sounded.

I would agree on the rear speaker in the tailgate. In my 1958 version it seems to be empty. There is no sound at all...which is a good thing for my dog. He gets AC or heat and the quiet ride while I enjoy the rest of the LC with some sound. Most of the time I enjoy listening to the drive train ...and learn by listening to how it accommodates my driving habits in the hybrid world.

I would love to know if there is a lead in the tailgate speaker location to hook up some form of sub...My guess is that the 1958 series infotainment unit probably won't support more than the 6 speakers in place.

For now I'm content with what's in place. I have found that most factory systems are just okay...unless you go to one like they offer in high end MB's and Porsches ...the Burmester systems...and those will set you back about $6-7K....and even then there's still ambient vehicle noise.

The impressive thing is Toyota managed to somehow couple a lack of bass with an excess of rattle from the door speakers. Very throwback.
