Few weeks ago I returned home from a week of off road camping. All went well until towards the end, when both front Birfield Axles when turning sharp left or right started to click loud. I am presuming that it is the Birfield Axles showing age as they are stock from 1982. Was climbing out of 7' washout when it started, boy did it sound bad. Plenty of grease when I did the grease cap removal and finger check on the housing, they are just getting old I guess.
So any input on what is THE BEST Birfield Axle replaces on the market today for a 82 - 45.
I'm not a extreme rock crawler but I know some of you guys have rigs with some of the best axles installed for the 40 class Land Cruiser, so why not ask from experience with the product.
Thanks

Ken is right. Be sure to get hub gears as well, if not you will strip the stock hub gear and ruin the birf. you don't need to be into hard wheeling to break a birf. They were made super hard and in turn brittle. Well worth the piece of mind changing to an rcv. Are you locked in the front?

"Are you locked in the front"? Not sure about your question. If you mean locked up from wheeling, no still can drive and un-lock and lock the axles. Just starting to knock, or click. Never heard of RCV but worth the time to read up on them.
Thanks

"Locked" meaning a locking differential. Could be a air, electric, or cable actuated. Some are not so harsh to drive on street like a EZ locker but some are really harsh like a Detroit locker. Sounds like you don't have one and are just hearing the birfs talking to you.

Sorry was not in that trend of mind, no, no lockers. All stock.
