Is this the correct Antenna part number?

I have tried two aftermarket antennas. One worked fine for a year or so. Then, it would pop out and hang over the side, only held on by the geared plastic cord. I could not get the plastic/rubber retaining ring to 'retain' the mast.

The 2nd aftermarket antenna, I had been holding onto as a spare for some time. When it came time to use, it would not properly fit.

Went back to OEM and it's been fine for the last 2-3 years.

@Lexus Land Cruiser - thanks - let us know how it works?

@hoser - Based on your experience, I'm going to get the oem one.

Weather moving in so I'll shelve this for next week when it's supposed to be far more favorable to working on the rig.

I wonder what specific aftermarket units @hoser used. The unit I linked to has all 5-star reviews on Amazon and glowing reviews elsewhere for this exact model.

+1 OEM.

The one linked to looks like the same I replaced (OEM) a number of years ago.

Still running your original plastic/rubber retaining ring or did the OEM replacement come with one? If you had stripped the original that was reused with the AntennaMastsRus, leading to its failure, I don't doubt you'd have admitted it

Eh? I didn't strip anything.

The plastic/rubber fitting is just a compression type fitting. You buy a new antenna and you use the new supplied fitting. I maybe could've wrapped the antenna in something like Teflon tape to provide more friction. The bottom line, like many aftermarket/OEM replacement parts, these are not made to the same standards as OEM.

Ah, I thought maybe you were referring the threaded nut that affixes over that plastic/rubber piece. In the case of that piece pictured, that would indeed be a quality control issue. I'm hoping the unit I ordered is a newer generation product that hopefully addressed the issue. Otherwise, it appears to be a quality piece of kit. I will remain vigilant for any indication of failure and will definitely take advantage of the 1 year warranty if it fails within that time.

Question: do you use your FM radio often? I'd assume any failure to be less prone to occur with minimal use. I probably will use it rarely and only for broadcast alerts in whatever locales I travel or when I've overrun my cellular data and unable to stream "radio".

I do use my FM often. So, yes, I'd say the AntennaMastsRus antenna would last longer with minimal use. I did notice the mast itself developed a bit of rusty crud on it... and that added friction could've been the demise of the plastic retaining ring. My 2-3 yr old OEM mast does not show any rust.

Well, that rusty crud report is disconcerting. I'll report my experience in a few months and, if the same, will be leaving the commensurate negative feedback on the Amazon product page.

When I first bought my 100, the antenna was bent so I bought an aftermarket mast from eBay. The day after I installed it (not even 12 hours later) it broke. Not only did it break, but the plastic portion separated from the mast and got lodged in the motor. I had to pull the motor from the inner fender and take it apart in order to free the white plastic portion. Total pain in the ass.

After that, I went with an OEM mast from CruiserDan and it has worked fine ever since. YMMV.
