Is this a 2f or 2h?

Here are a few pics of a Troopy I am looking at. Can anyone identify the motor?

Looks to be a 2H.....even hthough it should be a H engine....what year is your rig

Should show on engine casing left side about half way down the block......next to the bellhousing

The good thing is that the motor/engine compartment has all the right bits...aircon, power brake booster, etc. It actually looks to be pretty clean, with the right amount of dust/dirt/oil...thus has not been prettied-up for sale. Not sure about all of the power-taps on the battery Pos, or the tube headers, but neither of those would drive me away from the rig.

How does the body look? Rust, repairs, interior?

Cyclosteve has said it all, definitely a 2h. Pretty clean for a 2h that hasn't been cleaned up. Dito on the extras.

More pis, more pics!!:bounce:

What is the going rate for a clean, rust free Troopy. This is a 1981 OZ model with drums all around, 4spd, no power steering.

Rust free I would say at least 10k-15k in the US even though I've seen many lately in the 15-20k range. It's my favorite cruiser to drive.

I dont know about in the US but they come up on oz eBay over here from anywhere between $6000 - $15000 depending on how greedy the seller is, although I don't think too many actually sell in the upper price range. You could easily get an unmolested clean troopy for well under $10k in Australia. (just for a comparison)

I think that a HJ45 has the H engine and a HJ47 has the 2H. Check the vin# or on the compliance plate to see what stock engine that rig should have. Either way, i would say a 2H would be considered to be a slightly more desirable engine (later 2H engines out of 60 series also had a few extra HP too but that looks like an earlier 2H to me.)

I don't think any 40 series came with a second tank from factory. After market tanks are usually pretty easy to spot as they tend to be a bit more "boxy" in their construction. Unless the second tank is the factory tank out of another vehicle you should be able to tell right away.

Looks like the breather on the rocker cover has been capped off. Anyone shed some light on this? Good or bad? Having trouble with this myself - oil getting back to the air intake though here.
