Does anyone know what the "replacement head" part number is? I see a lot of info stating that Toyota changed the design from the early "thinner" heads. In my receipts from the previous owner it says "Culasse" which seems to be French for Cylinder head Part number # 1110154062, 1,462.96 euro? Hope this is the "updated head"!

Yours is the early 2LT correct? It's really only the 1990-1994 or so 2LTE and 2LT-II that had the major head problems that were updated with a new head revision. The 1990+ heads are totally different than your early 2LT head.

Your cylinder head is the early rocker cam style. The later cylinder heads (1990+ engines) are a shim over bucket design that cam drives directly. Like the 1HZ and 1HDT in fact.

If you go to ToyoDIY and pound that part number in, it shows belonging to the 2LT from about 1983 to 1989. Although, Toyota does seem to have a few versions for that early 2LT too. Seems yours is the latest version (the earlier ones were 11101-54060 and 11101-54061). So if there were improvements along the way for the early 2LT, yours would likely be the best one to have.

These early 2LT heads usually drop pre-cups or valve seats before cracking apparently. Although many of these motors have high kms on them now with no issues. They are known to not have the over heating problems of the 1990-1994 2LTE and 2LT-II. They are generally long lasting as long as they are taken care of.

Nick, thank you very much for your response. This forum, including your input, are the best source for learning about these little units.

I would take a 3b over a 2lt in any land cruiser. Why? Because you can always add a turbo to the 3b and 3b's really like turbos.

Just my experience because I do drive these three different setups daily. No boxing gloves here.

I agree, having a larger displacement motor that doesn't have to work as hard is a good thing; especially the tough old 3B. But if he's got a motor that's working just fine and is reliable, there is no point in changing it. Better just to sell the truck and buy a BJ70 if that's what he wants.

Ofcourse! Don't fix it unless its broke. Right?
