I have an 88 FJ62 w330k, it still runs well but the wife wants shoulder harnesses for the kids in the back seat. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply, it only has self retracting lap belts. The lap belts were fine when we had the large car seats installed but now we want to use the booster type.

You can purchase the retractable shoulder belts new from toyota or perhaps used from someone parting out an FJ62 (check the parting out section). Do a search in the forum for retractable seat belts to get an idea what needs to be done in an FJ60 to instlall the. As D'Animal points out it is highly likely that you have the cut out and panel nuts already installed and the belts should bolt in.

My '88 FJ62 didn't have the cutouts/mounts for the reels. I did install the retractable shoulder belts anyway. Nothing that can't be overcome with some diligence and creativity. I still need to weld in some reinforcement to the attachment point for the reel. I'm going to weld in a double thickness of sheet metal to go around the hole and beef up the bolt holes. The threaded attachment points are likely already in place in your C-pillar. You can find them with a needle or dental pick without damaging the fabric. The plastic trim around the reel (the long pieces under your rear windows) is different and the piece between the wheel hump and reel will need to be cut.

It should have them in the rig already. The FJ62's are even retractable.

Welcome to MUD!

not all 62's, I think the first run didn't have them, as mine doesn't have them either, maybe from '89+, or late '88

My Bad, I though all FJ62 came with them.

I have an 88 FJ62 and an 89 FJ62 and they both have the cut outs as well as the retractable shoulder belts.

My 84 FJ60 and my 86 FJ60 has the cut out but they are the wrong shape to take the FJ62 retractable shoulder belts as a direct bolt in.

It looks like I came to the right place for information, thanks. Does anyone have pictures of the installation, and which year models of used parts do I have to choose from. I'm off to the used parts section

I saw a fj60 that had added the 62 shoulder belts in the rear. He had used the belts and the panel from a 62 to build the 60 rear seat belt.

If you really love the car then mod the seatbelts. It's that simple.
