The recent thread about retrofitting the auto adjusting headlights made me wonder if there might be a plug and play option to add the manual headlight adjuster dial that the US market got on the '13-15 to the 16+?

In theory, it seems like you'd need the same infrastructure (motors, harnesses, etc.) to drive both, the auto version probably driven by a computer (using the sensor on the suspension to adjust) versus manually by someone turning the dial with their hand. But sometimes reality doesn't match theory...

I don't necessarily want to give up the auto adjusters (although they must be very subtle, since I've never noticed them in action) but it would be great to manually adjust the beams on occasion (like when bombing down an empty dirt road). The factory LED lights are plenty bright, but when adjusted to factory specs (I did mine by the book) to avoid blinding oncoming drivers, they are aimed low - easy enough to "over drive" the beam pattern.

Could it possibly be as simple as adding the dial switch from a US market '13-15 or another ROW spec? Is the connector and wiring for that switch still there on the '16+ behind the dash panel? I can't imagine Toyota having a bunch of different cabin wiring harness options for the cruiser (doesn't sound like the Toyota Production System in the least).

I'd be game to be a test subject if it seems viable, and I can locate an affordable switch.

YIKES! What a waste of money if it doesn't work...

Switch - Toyota (84152-60070) List Price:$104.33 Sale Price:$85.55

I bought a used switch on eBay and will report back once I receive it and see whether this modification is possible.

Between high beams, the automatic headlight leveling system and fog lights there seems to something for every distance. The next up I would consider a strip of lights on front of a roof rack.

I have run a 40” Black Oak combo beam lightbar on Wildyoats brackets and it produced tons of light. Really only practical off-road or on a very deserted road. Too bright for oncoming traffic, even when dimmed down through a Switchpro. The main downside is wind noise. I won’t do that again because of the wind noise.

I turned off the automatic dimming high beams too. They have too much delay, and the glare from road signs sometimes triggers them. I’d rather control them manually.

The LED headlights are very good compared to prior generations. It just happens that I like the ability to make manual adjustments which is a feature they removed (sometime after 2013) in favor of auto leveling.

After a very long shipping time from Latvia (several months, with the last month of it a delay in the USA), my switch arrived.

Now to look up the wiring diagram for wire colors, and then to see if there is a harness for it in my ‘16.

If it comes down to a choice between one or the other (auto vs manual leveling), I’d prefer manual.

it seems like you got a "refrigerator" and "outlet" but there is no electricity available in your village.

I just haven't had time to work on it. Too much other stuff going on in nice weather. I'll circle back around to it one of these days

Was there any luck with just adding the switch?

I didn't have any success.
