Lurker for a while before I registered. Ran xterras, a TLC fj cruiser..... then the GT bug hit ( fast smooth low and sporty) But after a while I was longing for another camp/hunt/explore/misc truck. And the search began. I knew I wanted no note on it ( so under 10k) and I wanted a 80 or 100 series cruiser . A few months of searching and several test drives of 80s and 100s ( and their almost twin brothers the lx450 and lx470) and I finally stumbled across the right stuff. I found a 1999 lx470 in the Houston area. Between car fax and Lexus service records I confirmed all major services done( t-belt, rhc service, wp etc.) plus a couple of coils a rear diff , rack and pinion , and a repaint courtesy of west side Lexus , as well as all scheduled oil changes ( seems they took it to the dealership after warranty if something was wrong or for the major services, but a different mechanic who reported to car fax for regular oil/ fluid changes). One owner (female rice grad judging from the emblem I peeled off the rear gate and the tire receipt in the glovebox) that was purchased and spent its life in Houston ( amazing it survived with the drivers in these parts) and no reported accidents.

Has 139k on the engine/ trans/ body based on Lexus around 50k on the diff and 40k on the steering.

Test drive was great and I made an offer on the spot ( helps to have a stack of 100s in your pocket ;).

Rhc works as it should ( based on indicator count posted elsewhere here) smooth as silk ( handled smoother and with better feel than the 14 pro4x I bought new)

Did find two issues, needed new struts for the hood ( should be here Tuesday, amazon is wonderful) and while the power tilt works, the telescope does not ( thankfully I am a monkeys brother more than an uncle with a 32.5 inseam and a 36 sleeve) but reach is perfect for me where it sits.

Future plans are for tires, maybe an ome lift springs if the ride control fails and a few odd bits if the mood catches me ( bumpers etc). Gotta get the step rails off too......

I should probably add that no rust was noted anywhere ( not that this is very surprising in Houston ) but still nice :)

Yea! Another lurker out of the darkness and into the light. Welcome.

I suggest you drive it for a while before doing any mods. drive it and enjoy it stock for a bit...

Nice find. Welcome to 'Mud.

:flipoff2::flipoff2:Welcome:flipoff2::flipoff2:

Smokey Topaz Mica repaint? Score!!

In Australia all LX's pre 02/03 update in this colour were repainted for free as a recall. Some sort of paint defect that the Aussie sun soon uncovered. I Think from memory they were all fading quickly.

Welcome former lurker!

Congrats on the new truck.

Im happy with it so far! Yes from the lexus service history it looks like the repaint was in 2004 at 70k miles and a touchup in 2009 at 110k. After reading the tilt/telescope thread I think I might manually adjust the telescope a bit (probably wont rebuild/replace the telescope motor ) . Tires are still in great shape, though I question the decision not to put LT rated tires on a truck this big (didn't see the LT indicator on the tires, still searching the brand) . The floorboards DO need to come off, maybe this week. Im just happy the search is over and the fun begins! The missus was impressed enough with the ride and build quality of a 17 year old vehicle that she is seriously considering trading her sedan in on a RX350

Wow, you just bought my trucks twin. '99 LX, smoky topaz, broken telescoping steering, and had to replace the hood struts!. Mine does not have the repaint and it shows.... I also just got some 285 BFG AT's if you want to see what that looks like on the same exact truck with stock AHC suspension. Click here for my thread. Congrats on the truck.

Just completed the floorboard ectomy. Stance is much better even with the the smaller tires ( previous owner put 265/70/16 s on). And I won't crunch a floorboard with a curb or rock ( will need to install protection for the height globes ..... kicking around some ideas now)

Here ya go :)- And I'm NOT going to ask about the iron donut underneath . It was nice to work on a rust free truck for once, everything came out fine without sacrificing a knuckle to the truck god Toyodin. .
