Hi guys,
Im new to this clubhouse (not the forums). My name is todd i live in Ocean Beach and have been the proud owner of my Fj62 for 2 years. I've done various projects myself (LED conversions all around, Power Windows and Locks, Speedo Cable replacement, air filters.) but have no mechanical background so I haven't touched some of the bigger stuff. Was looking to add an OME lift and due to some strange tire wear I brought it to the shop for a check up. Got back a long check list of todo's and basically I'm a little bit unsure of what really needs to be done and at what point should I be confident to invest in the lift without fear of an expensive break down the next day. These questions are bing covered in this thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/ne...vs-issues-on-my-62.812046/page-2#post-9278623 but the guys there suggested I introduce myself here and maybe have a local guy with some experience take a look at my cruiser and give me some advice…. so anyway here I am and here are some pictures of the cruiser. I look forward to posting more and meeting up with some of the guys.

Nice truck! It is unlikely a lift will cause a breakdown. I would say shop around though because OME is qiuite expensive and not any better than other options. There are not that many moving parts in our front ends so I am guessing the shop said new tie rods and wheel bearings?

Beach & Toys is the local TLCA chapter and has some very knowlegeable members. You might stop by for a meeting and check it out.

Yeah I know the lift won't cause a break down... The underlying issues... But you make a good point. What are some if the more affordable lifts for a 62? I need to replace the shocks when I do that.

I went with Hell Creek on my 60. It comes with shocks. I suggest adding shackles that are 3" longer to the kit. I got my kit delivered for under a grand. The shackles were $175 from a Daystar dealing company. Together that is still a lot less than OME equivalent.

@1973Guppie Thanks! I head up that way to surf quite often... Would love to swing by sometime. Looks like you have a great setup. I think I'm going to address the small leak in the radiator first and hopefully when I do that replace the hoses and belts and possibly water pump. Just debating on if I am going to buy a new aftermarket radiator or try to have my radiator repaired at http://www.intermountainradiator.com

I have had work done at Intermountain and they were a solid shop. I would definitely do all of the usual maintenance when you do the radiator like you said.

I am in Rancho Bernardo if you need a hand and are over this way. I used surf a lot in Carlsbad.

I'm in Clairemont, feel free to PM me your number. You could stop by and drive my rig to get a feel for an OME lift, shackle reversal and 35's. I'm no mechanic, but I can change a few parts out. The wife and I will probably end up at Dog Beach sometime this weekend as we usually do with our dog, let me know!
