Hi everyone, thank you for the add. I am new to the off-roading and overlanding worlds. I am currently driving a 2022 Lexus GX 460. Everything is essentially stock with the exception of some slightly larger Michelin Defender LTX tires and a Yakima Offgrid cargo basket. It’s mostly a daily driver, but I did just take my first trip to Big Bend NP.

Looking to slowly make changes that will make the vehicle more off-road capable while still maintaining road manners and refinement. Glad to find a community who shares similar interests.

Great pics! Big Bend is such a majestic place.

Nice pics hope you hit up boquillas crossing and starlight theatre in terlingua. The hot springs were too washed out for us to get to.

Thank you! Had a great time. Can't wait to go back.

Sadly I was not able to make it. Major wind/sandstorm meant I went home a day early. Got caught in a major haboob on I-10 on the way home. Had to pull off and wait it out. Never experienced anything like that prior to this trip.

It’s a great place to experience. Terlingua is a really cool spot and all the towns north of big bend are neat to experience if you go back. Alpine, Marfa, ft Davis and for a day or two each year valentine has a festival and open an old adobe bar.

@WBrown999 We're also in Houston and just got a 2018 GX stock with the Defender tires. We are planning a February trip to Big Bend, our first time. I'd appreciate any details on the roads you drove and how the GX did stock (mainly clearance). We have two young kids so we will be taking it easy but will want to drive some around the park. Thanks!

I drove a ton of the park and found that my (then bone stock, have made mods since lol) GX was able to handle everything EXCEPT Black Gap. I even drove Old Ore without any help, although in hindsight I might have been a little reckless. I wouldn't have been so cavalier if I had my family with me.

Thanks for the quick reply and feedback! We will probably just do 2 days of driving around, so could easily skip the harder roads. I like your victory bumper, that is one of the two I'm considering eventually, though I wish they didn't have their logo on the front. We hope to go as long as we can stock, and if we find we need "more" then we will figure out what "more" is at that point! : )
