Okay, while my head is at the machine shop, I decided to pull out everything from the cargo area for some badly needed cleaning and to prepare for a new stereo system. What I would love to see are the things you guys have done. I'm thinking about line-x'ing the whole cargo area and replacing stock panels with some alumninum ones (probably would have those line-x'ed as well) and then build in a sub enclosure for the low end.

I would love to see what you guys have done. Have searched and don't have many idea's yet.

thanks for the help once again.

I removed my panels and built boxes in their place. They are about 1' wide and as high as the plastic trim under the windows. For length, I covered the cavity behind the panels and then some. On the boxes I contact cemented outdoor carpet to the boxes and trimmed the edges with 1"x1" aluminum angle. The corners are sharp though, but I found some rubber bumpers to put on them. Over and between the boxes I can put in a plywood shelf allowing access to the cooler and kitchen box below without having to pull out a bunch of other gear. In the boxes I keep tools, towropes, jumpercables, etc. On top of the boxes I cut a hole for my new speakers. I'll be away for awhile, but I'll try pictures next week.

1TallTX has a sound deadening link on his recent Cummins diesel swap post. Cheaper than Dynamat and looks like a good product. I just stripped my rear cargo area...that felt was NAST-TAY! It was caked in areas w/ mud from all the trapped sand and silts, spilt antifreeze, twigs, leaves, and probably my bud's vomit from a bachelor party 3years ago. I give him chit still - I swear his stomach acid etched my bumper. I scrapped it all down and found a nice replacement on ebay. I retained that tar-like factory sound deadener though. I plan on using that edead foil fir the entire cab and re-carpeting. Hopefully then I can hear the lyrics on my tunes.

I built downward facing ported sub boxes for JLAudio DVC 8" subs. The boxes are the same height as the wheel well and extend from the back of the wheel well to the corner of the truck. I can cover the whole area with plywood for a small shelf and storage area, but that kills the sound quality.

I also installed double carpet padding and dynamat under that. On top of the stock carpet I have a big rubber mat cut to fit and installed under the stock carpet hold downs. Dynamat on the inside of the outer panel of the cargo areas.
