I'm not understanding what your saying. could you elaborate on this a little more? When you mentioned "the rear" are you talking about the factory rear emblem at the middle of the rear hatch? I'm also not quite sure what's pitting and chipping?

Yes the emblem in the middle. It sits to close to the edge of the hatch.
Overtime the paint chips off between the emblem and that small area at the edge of the hatch. So a thinner piece would look as good but leave a little room to touch up the paint or keep that small area waxed so it doesn't rust. The hatch is usually the first to rust. I see your making round pieces, can you make the longer emblem?

I think I understand. I live here in Socal so we don't really deal with much rust out here. The long FJ40 "Toyota" emblem could replace the factory Sombrero emblem and it's quite a bit narrower up and down but much wider. That would give you room above and below to get wax in there and help with the chipping issue. One issue I haven't gotten into is how difficult it is to remove the factory adhesive used to mount the factory emblem. You don't want a permanent visible mark/residue behind the FJ40 emblem where the factory emblem once was. since my wife gave the removal idea the axe I have to hope another member who has removed the rear emblem can chime in and explain how easy it is to remove the adhesive from the paint with no old marks/residue. I always use goo-gone with great results but I don't know how effective that would be for 17 year old adhesive.

East coast rust is a truck killer. You west coast guys got it good!!!
I installed a garden hose inside my garage and spray my truck down a few times a week. My neighbors must giggle watching me hose down my truck at 32 degrees and drive it in the garage. (I hose off the wife's Acura too)
Did you have any success with a thin rope or fishing line to remove the rear emblem? Also, there are 2 little plastic round pieces that go into the holes for the round Toyota emblem on the left side of the long emblem that should be re installed IMO. or rust will appear there aswell.

I never got the rear emblem off because my wife freaked when she saw what I was doing. I figured I better come up with a rear emblem that will mount on top of the factory one just in case other members have a wife like mine. I also have the "80" one that replaces the factory one. What are you referring to when you are talking about the "2 little plastic round pieces"? I was told the rear sombrero and "L" emblme are glued on. I haven't heard any mention of small round pieces.

The sombrero on the hatch has two plastic tabs that stick out to align it

Well.... craaap!! Now I need a rear emblem to make sure I get the tabs in the right spot on the "80" emblem. Anyone have one removed they want to loan me? I thought it was odd that the emblem was just glued on there. I wonder if the Lexus emblem and the sombrero emblem have the tabs in the same spot? Looks like I need to make some more changes.

For an update; I got an email confirmation today that my new printer shipped. I should have it by Friday. I hope to have it assembled and all dialed in within two weeks. So I should be in production mode pretty soon after and will get a new "for sale" thread started as soon as I have products to sell. I'm excited to work in ABS and try some of the different acetone techniques to get a smooth product.

I can tell you for a fact the US LX450 "L" emblem has two alignment tabs with two matching holes in the rear hatch.

I couldn't help but notice your cute little helper all ready for bedtime:

I'll see if I can find an extra one I have

I wouldn't bother adding the tabs to the emblems if I were you,it sounds like more hassle than its worth.
There's no issue I can see with just sticking it on and those holes could just be filled with sikaflex of silicone if need be

Have you ever tried rinseless wash? I use it in the winter to get the salt off the body, you just mix a bucket full and wash down the car with a towel, then wipe dry. Since getting the LC I even put some in a garden spray bottle attached to the hose to spray down the underside. Optimum No-Rinse is among the best. It leaves the paintwork looking just waxed too.

Cheers.

Thanks, great idea! I took a quick look at them. Not sure if I want to towel the whole truck off each time but I like the idea of adding it to a spray and spray it on the under carriage. I get alot of salt/sand mix around my area. The quick hose off works to get the heavy stuff off but when dry looks terrible. What do you use to attach to the hose to spray it with?

Great Work! I would love a "t e q" emblem for the front of a 96 LX. And 2 x flat "t e q" for the other rigs. Let us know when you're spooled up for production / payment etc.

I'm in. These are awesome. 2 front teq and one for the back. A 95 and a 96 Toyota
Whenever you have system for orders and/or payment I'll follow your direction.
Thanks for the thought and effort on these.

I'm excited to finally be able to update this thread. I got my new 3-D printer delivered last week and I spent the entire weekend and the last two days assembling it and learning how to operate it. It's a LOT more complex and functional then my old printer. I have also had to put a lot of time into learning the new operating system. It's finally up and running and I have my first test print going as a write. I also got the FJ40 emblem with the hidden 80 background all mocked up and fitted onto the 95-97 Yota grille Beno sent me. Please understand that the emblem in the pics was done just for mock up so it's printed at a very low quality on my old printer in PLA. At this point I have now updated all my designs to fit on either an LX or a Toyota. I'm pretty much ready to go. I plan to take the next few days and do a few more test prints before I start printing the first batch of emblems. Once I print a few I then plan to use them as my test subjects for the acetone bath. I need to figure out the right mixture of acetone to abs slurry to get a smooth finish without compromising the structure of the emblem. There is a fine line between a perfectly smooth (injection molded look) and a totally melted/burnt design. My hope is that by the end of next week I will have a full batch of perfectly smooth emblems that are ready to ship. Once I am at that point I will start the for sale thread and start taking orders. Sorry for the slow going on this project but it has been taking WAY longer for each step then I had anticipated. Here's some pics of the updated logo on Beno's grille and my new machine.

Sweet! I'm anxiously waiting to throw some money at my computer screen.

Not to throw any more on your plate or anything. But what about the fj40 font with the hidden 80 background but instead of Toyota it said Lexus.
Now that would be awesome! If not, I would still probably settle for the Toyota version.
Let me know what you think.
