Was wondering how much you guys pay for insurance?

I got quoted for about 134 a month from ameriprise for comprehensive with a 500 dollar deductible. i'm 23 one not at fault accident 3 years ago.

I got quoted 54$ a month from mercury here in california but heard so many horror stories.

I know our kbb value is not that high for our cars. Mine is around 3000 maybe . its an 89 fj62.

I was wondering How much you guys are paying and if you guys are getting comprehensive insurance since it seems like there is a good chance that insurance companies would just opt to total our car if we get in anything more than a fender bender.

I'm worried about putting in so much money  . lift paint job tires tune up on top of what i bought it for. around 7500 and then getting jacked and receiveing 3000 from the insurance company if say i get in a big accident. This is my first automobile(cruiser) that i've bought on my own and my first time being insured all by myself. I live in los angeles so I know rates are a little higher here but wanted to hear your opinions and insurance plans.

Regards,
Kevin

I have a 89 in pretty good shape. I pay $258 every six months for Farmers Ins.

I have found in the past that even though the insurance company might want to total your vehicle you do have some recourse.
My personal example:
I had a Motorcycle that was hit by a local cable company truck. I had a $1500 damage estimate from a local shop, but the insurance company wanted to total it and give me $800. They also wanted me to bring it to a shop that they recommended, but I refused. My insurance agent who happens to be a long time friend gave me this advice. Get some ads from the local cycle trader or any add with pictures that show what your older vehicle is going for on the market. The ads should be similar condition and miles. I found it would cost me between $2400 and $2700 to actually replace my bike. I showed these ads to the insurance adjuster and they ended up giving me a $1300 check. I had proved that I could not replace my bike with the $800 they offered. I won!
It was kind of like playing poker.
I can’t guarantee that this would work for you, but it did for me.

It's bad for me because I'm 17 so it probably dosen't matter, but I'm going to tell you anyway. I pay $1550 a year. My coverage is only comp because I have my own plan and I can't afford anything more. I just have to be really careful driving, that's it!

Liability only on my rig. C H E A P !!!

Getting and "agreed value" policy is the only way to recoup your value if it's totaled on an older cruiser that books out low. Talk to your insurance agent about it. You may have to get an appraisal that supports the value, and allow your agent to take pictures of it, but it's definately the way to avoid a battle if it's totaled.

I bought $20,000 agreed value collector car insurance policy from my agent for $50 every six months, and it allows me up to 3000 miles per year driving, but it must be kept garaged. I was previously paying $141 for liability only from my agent, and after I told them I was going to purchase collectors insurance off the net, they talked to their underwriter, and quoted me this deal. If you wheel or daily drive your cruiser, then it won't qualify for this type of policy.

I have "full" coverage. runs me about $50 a month. I keep the full coverage because I drive a rental when I am out on the road for work or driving any significant distance..... cheaper than putting gas in the cruiser and full coverage saves me from feeling like I need to add the $30/day insurance rider at the rental place.

i have the cheapest insurance possible, liability only, and pay about $53 a month for my 62. my jetta costs about $180 a month for full coverage. both policies are from state farm and those rates are with a good student discount and no accident discount.. what a rip! but i am 21 so i might as well bend over until 25 when rates finally fall. i dont even want to know what insurance on the M3 is gunna cost whenever that comes out.

Allstate has a collector policy with unrestricted mileage in CO. Don't know what it takes to qualify, though.

$700 per year for liability and I'm certain I could do better. I'm using progressive only because I have my bikes insured with them as well. One bill.

so it seems like most of you guys go with liability only.. what do you guys plan to do if the unthinkable happens and you crash your rig?

Is it worth it for me to go with comprehensive?

I'm only 23 so every penny counts still.

The only reason I carry collision is that I drive rentals a good bit and that insurance carries over to the rental car. If the unthinkable happens in the Cruiser, I'm hosed anyway because there is no way that I am going to be close to getting my $$$ out of it. So for most, it makes no sense. However, I am often driving $25k rentals that I do not want to have to replace should something happen.

Comprehensive is not collision. It is for vandalism, theft, flood damage, etc....

Ah that's what I meant, collision( as in if i crash insurance will fix my car) not comprehensive. maybe i should just go with the cheaper mercury with just liability.

Most insurance companies won't even offer collision coverage on a 20 year old vehicle. At least that has been my experience. I haven't looked into collector car insurance but I would think it would require some sort of limited mileage/driving clause or some other BS.

i pay 243 a month for full coverage and renters ins. but in march it should drop to 130 because my tickets will be gone.

i also spoke with thme about mods. and they put that n the computer and said they will cover any that i have a reciept for i.e. arb, lift etc.

i carry only liability on my fj60 (the minimum required in MN). I have collision on my audi, which runs me 625 every six months, and when I added the cruiser to this policy, and declared it my primary vehicle, it reduced the cost of insuring my audi (which is now consitered my lesiure vehicle for ins purposes) by an amount almost equal to the cost of insuring the cruiser. The net cost of insuring my cruiser is less than $8/month. I also have a $1000 deductible, so that helps keep costs down too.

To avoid being ripped off in the case of an accident, every time you perform a major upgrade have your truck appraised
