The rear third on my 60 is pretty worn, so I got a used one from cruiserparts. Way better. No noticiable slop in the pinion. I'm inclined just to bolt it in. Anything I should check before I do this? The pinion nut is staked. I assume I should clean it out first. Suggestions on how to do, what to use?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Definately clean it out first. Use a solvent of some sort. Mineral spirits
should work fine. Then look for any kind of uneven wear on the teeth. Gaps
between the ring and carrier. Make sure all the bolts are torqued. If you're
really concerned, disassemble it and have it Mag-Na-Fluxed.
Or just run a pattern to make sure lash is still good.
You're probably fine just putting it in. I've never bought from
cruiserparts.net, though, so can't speak to their QA.

If there are any oil/dirt tracks around the companion flange, you might want to put a new pinion seal in it.
