Hi all
Havent been here in a while. Used to own '96 LC 80 but recently had to part with it.
Just got an '05 LX and am complete again lol.

Installed a Thule Apex swing away rack but since I have the OEM bumper hitch style had to
modify the hitch receiver. It was actually pretty easy and reading posts from here helped out a lot.

After trying a hitch extension I wanted the rack to sit as close as possible to the truck while still
clearing the lower gate. Got a 2" to 1.25" adapter ($15 from U Haul), shaved the corners a bit for fit with a Dremel and cut half way between the end of the adapter and the locking pin hole; also used a 1/2" locking pin instead of a 5/8". the result is the carrier completely clears the lower gate open, by millimeters (when the carrier is in full swing) so am no longer concerned about damage to the gate.
The OEM hitch attachment has 2 metal loops that actually help the carrier's auto locking pin to stay in.

I have no experience with hitch bike carriers and somehow keep thinking it should go into the receiver a bit more. Does this look ok? Havent used it yet but I like this rack.

thanks for the input.

Do you have a side shot? That does look kind of strange.

I figured that is the way it should go since the auto lock pin would dictate where it sits.
