Installed 4 OME shocks and the OME steering stablizer, no springs. It was a pretty easy job, took about 5 hours, but if had to do it again, would take probably 4 hours. No power tools, just ratchets and wrenches.

Gave me exactly what I was looking for, no lift but much smoother and stable ride.

Thanks to this forum for the valuable tips/tricks. 123k miles and running strong!

For even more improvement, consider going with the OME stock height coils. They get pretty tired after 100,000 or so. Heck, you've got the hard part done already.

My OME setup was the first mod I did to my rig when I bought it.

Major improvement in ride and response over OEM, and I got it with only 65K on it.

PO had replaced OEM shocks with new KYB's (which I threw away)...but here's the thing...the OME springs are a thicker gauge coil than OEM, and have a progressive rate so, soak up small bumps well (washboard), but are responsive on the bigger stuff.

I've spent over $8000 in mods and maintenance, since I bought it in 2005...by far, the OME suspension was the best money spent, of all of it.:steer:

I have a question about the steering stabilizer. I have a 1979 fj43. do all fj have stabilizers? the first thing I did when I purchased the fj was to replace the shocks. But then I noticed on other fj for sale that they have a steering stabilizer. I looked at mine and it has the mounting bracket on the front frame but nothing towards the wheel. The previous owner converted/added power steering box from a fj 80. So my question is, does the power steering box take the place of the steering stabilizer or do I have to add one and also find the steering arm connection to hook to by the wheel? thanks
