Hi all, just wanted to share a few pics of my head unit replacement. I purchased a Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS double din DVD Receiver. It's great, and I highly recommend installing a parking brake bypass (available at any stereo store). The stock system in my LX470 was an antiquated old Nakamichi (sp?). I did not have navigation previously.

Anyway, ended up running the door speakers off the internal amp (50Watts x 4) and left the subwoofer connected to the amp under the seat. Since this unit has separate controls for a subwoofer, it's working great. Sound quality is better, but, the speakers will eventually be replaced with something better in the near future.

To install it, I purchased the Beat-Sonic trim kit with brackets. I must say the Beat-Sonic kit is perfect and required ZERO modification. Everything went in without a problem as if it was stock. Well worth the $120 pricetag.

The biggest reason I like this Pioneer is the ability to connect your iPhone to it. In "app mode" the unit will run various apps directly from your phone. My favorite is Waze navigation and Pandora. The unit is a fully functional touch screen and is nice to use.

Eventually I'll be posting pics of the rear camera installation (after I find a good one) and I also have a DVR I'll be installing from work.

Enjoy the photos. I'm very happy with the install.

Nice, wish I had the money to do that. I saw the GPS add-on was $450 - ouch!

It looks like it's fairly affordable to go with the Pioneer AppRadio 2 right now. Best Buy is offering a killer deal for $279 right now. You won't have CD/DVD playback, but, does anyone really use CD's anymore? Here's a link to the Best Buy site: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pioneer...512784097&skuId=4708949&st=appradio&cp=1&lp=1

I would have gone for this but the local Best Buy in Springfield, OR couldn't get the unit to me in time. The "pick up at local store" option doesn't seem to be all that reliable at BB. So, I purchased my unit from a local place called the Stereo Store.

If you can do your own install, purchase the AppRadio 2, and the BeatSonic install kit.... you could get away with putting this in for less than $500.

Nice.
What was the original? With cassette player?
This is much better and indeed the beatsonic surrounding looks great.

Hello,
Did you have the Nakamichi H/U prior? If the CD Changer is still working, I would be interested in purchasing it.
Cheers,
JJ

Where did you get the trim piece to cover the gap? I still haven't found something for the double din in my 1998.

TXLX100,

I have posted a link before to the trim and the wiring sold as a kit. Do a search under my posts and you will find it.

Hey guys, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I guess this system doesn't email me when there is a reply in my posts...

The GPS option is completely optional and not required. I have the iPhone5 which connects to this unit and I can do GPS through it. MotionX GPS or Waze are my favorites. It looks like MotionX is better for off-roading because you can download the maps. Waze is good for keeping track of cops.

I would sell it to you, but, the changer is not working. There are about 5 disks that I can't get out.

Looks great did you get a wiring loom or did you cut into them?

I cut into the harness. Not a big deal to me because that crappy stock radio will never go back in.

Here's a link to the kit I purchased: http://www.beatsonicusa.com/stereo/.../landcruiser-lx-470/beat-sonic-sla-100fb.html

Looks good....that is same trim I used on my install of new radio a few years ago on my 2000 LX470. Congrats on the upgrade...

Thanks to all of you guys who commented on this thread. The stereo has been a neat addition to the justification of this ride.

One more comment...

If I was to do it again, I would have saved some cash by purchasing the AppRadio 2. I am enjoying this unit, but, the extra money I spent on the additional camera inputs and CD/DVD options are not worth it. I might change my mind after installing 2 cameras, but, I don't even care about music CD's or movie DVD's anymore. Everything is going digital and I predict a day when cars will no longer need optical media players.

This is the best deal out there (as of today) IMHO. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pioneer...784097&skuId=4708949&st=app%20radio&cp=1&lp=1

Congratulations! looks very nice.
Is there a writeup somewhere about this install?
How complicated is the install? I have never done car audio work before
