My 1hz is 32 yrs old and at 708 k km's.

I've owned the vehicle since 2011 and done just over 200 k km's in that time.

I've never had the crank pulley aka HB off the motor and never really had any problems with it, but is there anyone with a good way to inspect it for condition, and if necessary remove and replace it? I know it's two metal bits with rubber in between.

I know it has quite a high torque on the bolt for it. I currently don't have any tools which would work to remove/replace it as my tools are basic shadetree mechanic ones that max out at about 150 ft lb.

I can get a new genuine one. I'm aware there's also an oil seal behind it.

Another thing that got me thinking about is I've had belts slip a bit on really cold nights driving to or from work. I think that's more of an issue with the alternator or general belt tension slackening off over time though.

I've never has an experience where a crank pulley on a car or 4wd has gone bad so what symptoms might there be to indicate impending doom?

From my research, belts slipping and associated screeching noise would be an indicator. Are there any markings on the HB across the pulley? If those markings are there and are not aligned anymore, that would be another indicator. I read a horror story post on here about a sudden HB failure so I bought the parts and am going to do it soon. I have about 270k KMS on the OD. I bought a torque wrench to get to 362 ft/lbs per the FSM and a 3/4” breaker bar to fasten to one end of the frame to stop the crankshaft from moving.
