I think you will be surprised that DDM has roughly $9 in a HID ballast and less on bulbs, probably $2-4 on a wiring harness. A OEM system from a LS460 costs upwards of 8K. I wouldn't be shocked if the aftermarket stuff pooped out quick. I've seen how they are made, we have stress tested lots of OEM and aftermarket. OEM cannot take the abuse of a aftermarket but they are much quicker at warming up, 90% of OEM systems are not waterproof and housed internally. I run full OEM denso ballasts ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) and it's quite clear why they are superior. Also run a very rare bulb, fat tube style.
Yo, I have the fat tube style too...

For all of the chattering there is about HID in stock reflector housings, the LC seems to be better than most due to the shape of the housing. I have mine angled down substantially to avoid blinding others, and they are still probably 2X the output of the factory bulbs. I don't have the coin to drop on projectors, but I really don't see the need to do the retrofit right now even if I did.
Think again. They produce a huge amount of light scatter.

I mean your install is great and it does 100% of what you claim, but that cutoff is see everything to see nothing (as designed). It would take me a while to get used to it. As long as I have my HIDs aimed correctly and am not a danger to oncoming motorists, I kind of like the way the light is spread using the HIDs.
Btw, I have a GX470 also, so I am not unfamiliar with shutters and sharp cutoffs.
I have re adjusted them. They are a bit higher. No more outdriving them anymore.
In my 4+ years of playing around with aftermarket plug and play HID kits, I've found the ballasts to be somewhat of a disposable item. No matter how thoroughly I secure the ballast, moisture has always managed to creep in and ruin the unit. Luckily prices have dropped considerably so I just buy a new one whenever that happens. Your ballasts lasting 1.5 years sounds about right in my book.
