What have you guys done for bodymounts. I might try to copy Nomis' idea, which is pretty straightforward, but do any of you experts out there know if we are hostages of CCOT on this issue? $200 for urethane mounts is friggin' robbery. Are body mounts a generic product or do they widely vary? I'm gonna look through Summit of course, or figure out how to accuarately cut 16 ga steel, I guess. Bandsaw, shears, air nibbler?

Thanks!

body mounts

What I used that worked really well is rubber boat bumpers. I bought mine from a local marine place. They came in 12 inch long round sections. Hard rubber about 3 inch diameter with a hole already in the middle. $10 a piece. You can buy them online but have to pay shipping. I bought some large body fender washers from tractor supply and some grade 8 bolts and nylock nuts. Nice thing about them is you can cut them to whatever height you want.

I just noticed your truck's year after the fact. This worked for 1980 that had stock round body mounts. Might still put you in the right direction though.

I used 2" nylon round stock.Cut to length and drill a hole. Add correct length hardwear and your done.

I bought an Energy Suspension brand kit a few weeks ago from these guys for 83 bucks, since Summit was on backorder at that time. Energy Suspension Parts: LandCruiser - FJ, 1975
I like to buy my parts through LC oriented businesses, but when they're all charging $160-$180 for what looks to be this exact same $90 kit, I decided to look elsewhere.

Well....I think I've got the bank on the cheapest and best body mounts :)

I've drilled out a hockey puck...and chopped off the ends to square it off.

They're just soft enough to provide a lil bit of cushioning....and stout enough that they don't squish when you torque the mount bolts down!

I know it's kinda WT....but they work awesome!

Can even be used as motor mounts on the transmission side.

Just a creative thought for ya!

Oh, in answer to your 16g metal cutting....a hand power shear from Harbor Freight works awesome!!
Here's a link to the one I have. Be sure to buy the 'insurance' coverage for like $10....have used it once and got a brand new shear for free!!

Best of luck with your project!

I got the Energy Suspension Kit.

For cutting sheet metal a good 32 tooth bi-metal blade in an electric jig saw (or use an air powered saw) will do the trick. (Poser had a cool one in his thread on clutch replacement/broken flywheel bolt.)
Easy to do blind hole cuts, just drill a 3/8" hole and start cutting. All the panels on mine were cut this way. Just remember to allow the tool to do the work and KEEP A SHARP BLADE IN!!!

I have an air shear, and while it cuts OK on straight cuts, I found it hard to control on 16 ga metal. I also have a nibbler but it would not get close to handling 16 ga. ;)

wow this is timely. Soon the body will be off for paint and I just got around to thinking about mounts. Gotta question to all of you who are using the Energy suspension kit, do those mounts bring everything back to stock height or is there a slight body lift that settles over time due to the new material?
Thanks
