I have an early model H Diesel engine. Runs like a top but is slow. I am exploring the idea of adding a turbo to it. I do not know or have not found any other solutions to get more power out of it. The turbo kit I have been referred to is from a company in Australia called Turbo Glide: HJ45 & HJ47 Series H Engine Toyota Landcruiser Turbo Kit Fitted

Just wondering if any one has had the same problem and solutions for it??

Thank you..

Hi, too late maybe but : i cannot recommend turbo on H, series, just in case low psi,oil cooler and larger bore exhaust, BUT mainly : clean filter, Wheel hub lock instead factory locked wheels and lighter rims : magnesium or aluminum.
Thanks!

Do not run a Turbo on the H engine you will kill it. I am amazed Turbo Glide is still selling Kits for the H there has been a lot of H Failures in Australia with Turbo's . If you must Turbo I would get a 2H but then if you doing that just go 12HT and so it begins

I think my H is running pretty well, but it's not a rocket ship - maybe you can run it up on a local dyno to see what you're getting out of it?
You're one of the last one drivers of "H" diesel engine itself, congratulations for supporting this engine to nowadays ,actually i'm learning how to improve startup e.g , using 1HD-FTE intake heater ...regards

Thanks. I love the H sound and the unstoppable nature of the beast.
Interesting idea with the heater. Mine starts ok, but it does smoke a bit for a few minutes unless you manually "after-glow".
I'm pretty sure several of my glow plugs are either a bit tired, or (more likely) the aluminum conductor across the top needs replacing.
Blue-printing these engines is probably the best place to start.

Here where i live, it's very related to our coffee culture , because since we began producing coffee, HJ45 has been adopted almost as standard to take valious cargo from very deep valleys. And so for that I'm still loving "restoring" with upgrades, i've been studying mechanics to be comprensive of lack of oil cooler , the possibility to stole a intake heater and adapt with a flange billet on basic intake, even so my 1980 has a magnetic shock that were fired when starter runs. P.O was a little carefully and installed the famous Wilson switch , but with bad manners to poorly wiring has cause me several incidents that almost burns . Regards

No edic on my South African safari truck - once it's running, just turn the key backwards for more heat - the only way to stop this is pulling the engine stop knob to cut the fuel.
It sounds weird that we're still loving the taste of diesel engine smoke. Your unit sounds so go, mine it's basic HJ45-LPK , still running, working for his own overhaul too soon.
