Been checking out the rock slider market and wanted to get some thoughts. I’ve been looking at the Bud Built, RCI, and MetalTech. I seems like the options are mostly the same, besides the prices with Bud Built being the most expensive, from what I’ve seen. Any recommendations? Or just send it?

These were all on my short list as I was looking for sliders that retained a functional step and also looked OEM. I went with the Expedition One as it covers up both ends nicely, hiding your cuts of the plastic trim. Link to my install.

@Bang Bang @xychromosome thanks for the suggestions! I like the SSO look but doesn’t look like they have a 20 degree angle. I think a 20 degree angle with the SSO look is what I’m going for, but I’m taking all recommendations. Thanks!

Really depends on what you want. You like the tube look for a more off-road style or something that looks more OEM. I went Victory because I like the latter. Expedition look great too but cost more than the Victory.

Yeah, I like the tube look, was eyeing the Slee sliders awhile back, but changed my mind.

I came close to getting Slee sliders, Slee is very legit in the Land Cruiser and off road world.

My reason for sliders is to help prevent damage to the rockers from lateral slides on icy trails into trees. I want them to stick out as far as possible. 14 years ago I had Adam at 4X Innovations make custom zero offset sliders for my Taco. They were one of the first zero offsets he made now zero offsets are common. For good reason. Hey not often I am ahead of everyone else LOL

I had him use expanded steel for filler plates between the tubes. Last year I went with Expo sliders and solid filler plates when I got the GX. They work well for my needs and no regrets.

They don't extend out as far as the sliders on the Taco did but far enough, so far. I'd go with them again if I had to do it again. I like how the Expo sliders extend further on the ends over the Slee ones as well. Personally I like the flat plate look of sliders on the GX over tube sliders. That is me though.

Things to consider with sliders:
  1. Do you want a factory look?
  2. Do you want the "kick-out" in the back?
  3. Do you want them angled upward?
  4. Do you want them close to the body or sticking out further for stepping on.
I prefer them to stick out as far as possible for two reasons, 1) idiots in the parking lot like to swing their doors into cars. Let them hit the rock slider instead of my door! 2) gives a little more space when pivoting on a rock or tree before it hit's your door. I had MetalTech sliders and swapped them out for RCI because the RCI were wider and I had more purchase for my foot when opening and closing our RTT. The MetalTech's, I had to stand on the edge of my toes, with the RCI's, I can rest the front of my foot on the slider. Makes a much better step.

Not one you mentioned, but I'm a big fan of my White Knuckle Off-Road sliders.
I had WKOR sliders on my LX450. I beat those things like a rented mule. Touch them up with the rattle can every so often and they looked good as new.

I was contemplating the closer 20-degree slider, but the 0-degree slider looks nice as well. As you mentioned, it keeps you further away from the impact. I like the tucked-in look, and Metal Tech has a slider for about a grand, but I have slid pretty close to trees and rocks without any sliders, so maybe having them stick out a little more could be beneficial. Since I've cut it off, my wife misses using the running board to get in and out of the GX, so maybe something more like OEM wouldn't hurt.

@r2m I was also checking out the RCI, so maybe I'll be shopping around a little more instead of almost getting the Metal Tech. I think the 0-degree will probably be more beneficial for the points you've mentioned and others. Thanks.
@Roody, I'll check out the White Knuckles. Thanks!

Seriously, if you like the tube look and want wider, the Demello sliders are the way to go. My wife HATES trying to get in and out of the GX because of how tucked in the SSO sliders are. (She's short and needs the step on a lifted truck.) If I was going with OEM looking sliders, I'd be getting the Exped One's. I think they are top notch.

Don't disagree about Expedition One products but do need to double vouch for the White Knuckle ones.

I like the Expo One sliders, but I plan to go up to 35s when I can regear, and I'm not sure if the sliders extending all the way will cause an issue. Everyone has made some excellent points, and I will look into the 0-degree sliders. The Demellos kicker sticks out too much to my liking, but I do appreciate the recommendation.

Those are clean. I'm going to check them out on the website.

Also looking for sliders for my ‘24 Taco. You mentioned you like the look of OEM. I have the option I would guess to buy OEM sliders. I’m leaning heavily to the Expo One but am rethinking after OEM entered the conversation. Is there a benefit to the OEMs that I’m missing? I like the look of Expo One over what I’ve seen for the OEM so if it’s just aesthetics I’d go Expo One.

I've never seen Toyota OEM sliders. They have rock rails and some people call them sliders but if they mount to the body of the truck, they're not sliders. They need to mount to the frame and be able to hold the weight of the truck so be sure of what you're buying.

What the OP meant by the look of OEM is that the Expo One's look more like the stock steps than sliders but they are functional sliders that mount to the frame.

If you are not actually wheeling the truck stick with the stock steps. No point in spending money on sliders that are all tucked up and hidden, let alone the cost of buying and installing them. Huge fan of Demello and Slee. Consider that if you need to conduct a recovery from the side you can use a slider as a recovery point if the structure (tubing) is open and not covered.

@Bajaknot Yeah, I like the Expo One sliders, and like what @Bang Bang said, the OEM look of the step slider. But @Washingtontaco makes a great point about side recovery, which has me thinking tubular again.
