Yep, tranny took a dump today. Sounds like a rock tumbler. Good thing she always breaks at home instead of on a mountaintop.
In addition to the trans, I will also need help putting her in. Any help would be greatly appreciated and rewarded with plenty of beer and thank-you's.

Laurie did you post up a "wanted" thread in the classifieds? Anything else that is compatible..?? :meh:

I've got one sitting in the shop. It has 160k on it, but I don't know the actual condition of it. I will send you a PM.

Tore the transmission out today. It had an intermittent knock to it when it was running that kinda sounded like a rod knock to me, a transmission problem to Laurie and a broke clutch spring to Dan. Anyway, when I got it on the ground there were no apparent problems aside from an extremely haggard clutch pressure plate and flywheel. I drained the oil in the trans and that's when a ton of metal shavings along with a big chunk of metal came out. Put in new clutch and flywheel and re-installing the lower mile transmission outta Jared's old 87 truck tomorrow. I drained the oil of the newer trans and it looked brand new which is shocking since its been sitting for years!

Here's the flywheel cracks...

Random metal chunk at the bottom of the pan. Washer is there for size reference.

OMG! There he is again!! Walk like an Egyptian!

Save all those random metal pieces for your new career!

Done! Knock is all gone. I cleaned up some engine bay wiring and topped off the fluids. Everything seems to be just fine although she's a little cold blooded upon initial start up. Clutch and transmission feel great! :steer:
Chris: only used a couple cups of the gear oil, that's a nice little setup, really pumps some volume out of it.

I went for a short test drive and got some funny looks. I didn't realize it but I forgot to take my safety goggles off and I may have had something on my face....

And she's outta the shop in all of her 254,000 mile glory. Although now the trans and tcase only have 160,000 on them. Its practically a low-miler now!
