Hi Folks.
I saw this idea of buying a 40 in Japan, if you folow this:

yahoo japan - Google Search

When you get there click on "translate this page" and navigate to automobiles+toyota+landcruiser.
They say the prices are 40+ million Yen? This cant be right, I'm trying to get back interested in my BJ40 diesel, chassis and all mechanically in top shape but body rotten! Any ideas on parts? May be easier to import from Japan, I am in Ireland!!!

I hate to say this**, but if I were in your shoes I would part out your Landcruiser and purchase a Series IIa Land Rover, perhaps a wagon. At least parts would be easy to get and I would think there is abundant local knowledge on repair and what not. The MOD (UK) and its resellers have many Land Rovers for sale including D90, D110, and D127s models as well as cab overs and the lightweight versions.

**I am guessing Toyota parts are very scarce in Ireland since you are considering something from the other side of the planet.

If Euros are no object then go crazy and get a cruiser in a container and ship it. You might be money ahead if you try to find someone/business who would want to have something shipped over too. Maybe you like Japanese furniture, their mini trucks, or perhaps Japan Domestic Market (JDM) hot-rod hondas, toyotas, or subarus?

Good luck.

40 Million yen is redonkyalous!! I paid WAY less than that for my 44 while I was there. In fact you could fly over to Japan, pick out the one you want and do the leg work to ship it yourself for WAY less than that. Cruisers have gotten a bit more pricey over there but not 40 million!! That's almost $40K american. Check out New Zealand or Australia.

Buy a load of replacement body panels from stateside and have it shipped over. You could fly it all into Shannon, pick it up, have it all welded in, sandblast the frame, paint the rig, redo the interior, and you'd still be saving money.

Here's one vendor. There are others as well.

Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 FJ45 Steel Body Parts
