This may be my last post as a Land Cruiser owner. Admittedly, this is only the tensioner side, but compared to other images on IH8MUD it looks nearly new. YMMV.

Why your last post as an LC owner?

How hard was it to open the cover to see? I have 151k on my 98 LC and mine was changed at 45k for some reason. Starting to get nervous enough to have mine done again, but if I could take a look at it to give me a little piece of mind for a while that would be great.

Klaus, as tempting as the headers are, from what E9999 mentioned in a recent thread I think you'd be better served by getting your 90k service done. The service interval says 90k or 7 years or something to that effect. You're probably fine, but better to err on the side of caution IMO.

As to the water pump, they don't go out often and it's not listed on the 90k service list from the factory, but since the part is so cheap and access is easy while you're in there for the timing belt, it's a no-brainer to do it during the 90k. Cheap insurance, so to speak.

Peanut, sorry to hear that you're selling your rig. Good luck!

I'm no mechanic or anything but I have been told a number or times to always do both at the same time. Just like Klause said, it saves a ton in labor to have it all done at once.

I had a timing belt snap on an older supra. You don't want that to happen.

Thats usually only the case if you are removing parts that make the job easier at the same time.

For instance, if you needed to have your front bumper replaced, getting your rear bumper replaced at the same time wouldn't really change the labor price by much, if at all.
There is nearly nothing that you pull to do the timing belt that would make doing the headers easier or save time.

Not sure where we digressed...I thought we were talking about timing belt and water pump being done at the same time?

It makes complete sense to do the timing belt and water pump at the same time, and saves a ton of time vs doing them separately. Once the timing belt is off it takes much less than an hour to replace the water pump even if you are doing it yourself for the first time.

The belt in 4Peanut's pic looks good. Most of the older belts show a regular cross-axis cracking. Still, its best to stick to the FSM spec replacement intervals rather than to rely on how the belt looks. There may be a failing section of belt that you won't see until the whole belt is exposed, so a pic of the belt on one cam pulley is no guarantee that its good for another 100K! A broken belt will ruin your whole day.

Consider the starter brushes too while they are in there. Very high labor cost for a $20 part.
