Hi All,
1986 fj60, 117000 miles. Stock 4 speed, stock wheels. I hear a ramdom noise from the tranmission that sounds like a high idle or a reving motor (but not as loud), but it is not. The rpm gauge dosen't move when this happens and I notice no lose of power. All I hear is the noise. It happens on flat ground sometimes, and going up hills sometimes.
Is this periodic, ramdom noise normal for fj60's trannies?
John

Gear whine is typical and usually originates from the T-case. One thing that commonly happens is a failure of the oil seal between the tranny and T-case. When this happens the gear lube gets pushed into the tranny and the T-case starves even thought the T-case is lower than the tranny. There are easy fixes, but the first thing you should do is check the fuid levels in both gear boxes immediately.
