Jim, if you come to tuscaloosa and have an hour I would really like to show you our van de graff park.

Cool!

That's a large salamander! I never knew of such an animal.

I used to live in Florence right on Cox Creek which is a tributary to Cypress. We caught a few of those growing up(25-30 years ago). We'd put them in coolers and keep them a few days and then put them back. Caught one of them on a hook one time. The good old days. Used to also catch some freshwater eels. Only at night.

This is a few miles from me. Awesome! I'm actually in the process of working with one of the watershed's in Lauderdale County trying to help manage & clean it up. Maybe we'll see more return.

One of the more recent hellbender sightings (2014) was in Cypress Creek. Still lots of good potential habitat in Cypress.

This morning my wife was face timing her mom and I heard her yell "Mom! Stop showing me that! (She is terrified of snakes). Then a minute later "oh wait, I think that's Jim?"

My mother in law was very impressed by the article, congrats again Jim.

Maybe I'm late to this story…but, good for you Jim! That's impressive work you're doing…and yes, that's a mighty big salamander!
