OlyWaFJ here, and I just renewed my TLCA membership after a couple year hiatus of owning a '98 Jeep TJ, thank God that PoS is out of my life.:flipoff2: The grass certainly isn't greener on the other side...

It's cool to see there is still some activity with you guys here on Mud as far as South Sound Cruisers is still concerned, anyone coordinate some local runs to Tahuya or Evans or Naches or elsewhere anytime soon? I know a lot of places are still closed for the winter but Spring is here and they will be open before we know it. During my renewal of TLCA I noticed their wasn't any official clubs listed in Washington, is there any interest in reorganizing South Sound Cruisers?

I just bought the dream two days ago; a one "Grandpa's FJ" owner, unmolested, never off-road, purchased from and only serviced at Toyota of Puyallup, 176k miles, leather interior is showroom quality probably a 9.8/10, factory lockers front & rear, 1993 FZJ80 Land Cruiser! I was tired of the FJ Cruiser that I waited 3 months to be delivered from the factory in August 2006, sold it and thought it would be fun to own a TJ, it is in the summer but even with a hard top not so much in the winter. I was hoping to find a rear-locked 100 series LC from 1999 but when I stumbled upon this on Craigslist, I drove to his house with 55x $100 bills, tested the lockers and drove away this beauty! It was only on the market for 3 hours, and when I pulled into his driveway he was on the phone with a guy from South Dakota who was willing to fly out the next day and buy it sight unseen.

I took off the wind deflector tabs on the hood last night and ordered the CDL from Slee to get that installed ASAP. Next on the list is to replace those steps with a set of steel sliders from MetalTech4x4, then get all my Jeep Patrol SAR communications gear mounted, Wagongear AM/FM-CB mount with spliter & a pair of YodaTeq mounts should do the trick, need to pickup some Heavy OME springs, then probably the Slee Shortbus bumper with a Superwinch of some sort and finally some new Duratracs or new BFG KO2's later this fall as those Michelin M&S tires are brand new. My build focus is to keep it as a daily driver for a year or so until I can buy a small commuter car and set it up for Overlanding trips, eventually pickup a Turtleback trailer or something like it and build some sort of drawers in the rear.

If there is enough interest we should setup a meet & greet sometime mid/late April.

I would be interested in establishing a local club. Meet and greets tend to bore me, but would try to attend a run with folks.

Also I saw this ride on CL. Good pickup.

Oly,

I'm down for getting the group together. I am in sort of the same boat as you as I have been out of the 80 arena for a few years. Just picked up a 94 and have the itch to go overland or light wheeling. Have many of the same plans for mines as you.

If you decide on a meet up just pm me and I will check availability.

I check in from time to time and would be interested in doing some light wheeling and what not

Most of Elbe or the eastern parts of the Naches Wagon trail are probably the easiest trails. Evans Creek will eat the sides of most vehicles unless you stick to certain trails and take it easy.

I was out at Evans Creek yesterday for a few hours to scout it out. Too bad you couldn't make it Gould. My dog got out and I spent a good bit of the morning chasing the rat bastard down, so I didn't get back to you as soon as I would have liked. I was also not too sure if there would be any hiccups on installing my third member Saturday night so I didn't want to commit till it was back together.

Got in with some mini trucks on 40's and had to turn around when they started going down a windy steep trail with big rocks - in the rain. I would never have made it back up.

Should have taken more pictures..

I will check this thread too and see if anyone is planning a run - I'm game whenever I have the time.

My mother-in-law took a fall and dislocated BOTH of her shoulders about a month ago, so my free time has been limited. I still want to setup a meet & greet sometime soon in the Olympia/Tumwater/Lacey area, maybe in the evening mid week? I still have some preventative maintenance to perform as well as needing new AT tires before I head out to any over-landing or light wheeling adventures. Once I have a chance to pickup some sliders I'm down for a trip to Naches or Evans Creek which will probably be this fall.
