You have been warned :)

A couple of years back I had a 60 but before i really got started with it I sold it off to facilitate the purchase of a new house. The wife promised that I could get another cruiser once we got everything settled and last week I picked up my 95 FZJ80. It has 208k, no lockers, and is a lovely thundercloud blue color.

I have been doing some research on various tires and wanted to get some local opinions of a couple different treads. I have decided that at least for now I am going to stick with skinny 33" tires. This is partially so that I wont have to do lifts/gears/and deal with worse MPG. Additionally I do not want a loud offroad only/mostly tire and am willing to sacrifice some offroad performance for onroad usability.

I am primarily looking at the 255/85r16 in the following tires and would be interested in any experiences that you have had:
1. Cooper Discoverer ST
2. BFG Mud KM2
3. Toyo Open Country MT

Thanks
Brak

I think the tires you listed are all pretty aggressive, and possibly might be a little loud.

What kind of offroad driving do you do? Fire roads, mild trails etc?

I think an AT would be a better all-around tire. Not knocking the tires you listed, different tools for different jobs.

I have heard great reviews about the Goodyear silent armor. I think they make an AT tire.

You may have to change size though. I think 285\75\16 is the perfect size. FWIW my Falken 285/75/16 measure ~33" by ~10.5"

I like the KM2's myself. I have them on the 73 right now and they aren't loud, in fact they are quieter than the mud T/A's. I have run the KM2 predecessor -- BFG mud T/A's on three different vehicles and never found them to be overly noisy either; plus I have regularly gotten 50k miles out of each set, including lots of off road and on road driving.

I hope to do med/mild trails, fire roads, and the pavement in between them. The truck is not a DD but would rather not have the constant Hum that seems to come with the really aggressive tires. General goal right now is more expedition less rockcrawl.

The tires listed are pretty much what is available in the 255/85r16 size, I realize I may need to expand the size to get a larger selection of tires. I had hoped to go as tall and skinny as possible without changing gearing and overstressing the stock components, as I not ready to start replacing all of that just yet. Additionally decreasing rolling resistance and drag to keep fuel gate needle at the top a bit longer is always a good thing.

Do you need instructions on how to post pics? It looks like a stock landcrusier

As soon as I buy a towstrap so I can pull you out after you overestimate your capabilities.
