I test drove one recently and as i was switching from the passenger to drivers seat (my partner drove it first) I closed the passenger door and it went "bung" not thump. It sounded like a Ford Fiesta or something, just an embarrassment. Honestly that alone might drive me away from the 250.Ufff...you dodged that bullet. I most definitely understand, especially after I sat in a Prado 250 for 5 mins waiting for the oil and filter change in my 200. God awful thing does not compare to the quality on my wife's 5th gen 4runner, let alone a 200.
I can only imagine the frustration of the Japanese workers assembling these, after having worked so many years on the 200-build quality.

Man, someone needs to get in contact with Toyota engineers and marketing team and inform them all they need is “thump” doors to sell MILLIONS of trucks.

The door solidity is representative of dozens of other shortcuts that seem to have been taken, it's just that we interact with them every time we drive a vehicle and it's such an obvious and easily remedied concern. We could talk about the tie rods or the small rear diff or whatever else too. Toyota knows how to make solid doors, they do it on many other models, they either cheaped out or figured people wouldn't care, or would care so much they'd buy a 550.

I appreciate your attempt at creativity, but you seem like someone who just discovered Toyotas and are an eager convert. I drive a 100 Series, btw, not a 200, and you'll never find a more durable engine than the 100 series 2UZ, so comparing it to the 4Runner or any other is a joke.
Honestly the attitudes and snark on this section of the forum is crazy compared to the rest of the site. I am obviously considering the 250 and 550, so it's not like I'm completely against the platform, but if we're being asked to spend $70-80k I'd like to get some quality. I think people have a right to cite potential concerns, especially things like the worry about the v35a engine that has already had 100k vehicles recalled for example.

I now have a 200 and a 250. The doors sound the same when you close them properly. Same for the 4Runner.
I cringe when my teenage kids close the doors on any vehicle. They all sound bad when slammed.

So far I’m really enjoying the newness and definitely getting use to the difference. I’m liking it. Rebuilt break MC on the 73 this weekend and enjoyed the nice weather for the test drive.

Yep, yep. Right on the money. If there is one thing I learned here is that people will go to crazy lengths to justify their purchases (more so, obviously, on the 250 forum). They can't bear the fact that they may have done a mistake or that the car they bought has many many flaws, not even if you show them the glaring facts up close to their faces. It is just human nature, I guess.
There are some exceptions though and you can see here and there people that bought the Prado and returned them or at least recognize its failures/shortcuts. To me, those are the ones more in touch with reality and from all the "car reviews" we see out there, those are the most trustworthy.
I am not saying there aren't any buyers genuinely thrilled and happy with the 250 - they are out there, yes and IMO mostly are the ones upgrading from a 5thgen 4Runner. The majority coming from a 200 are the disappointed ones. Some voice their frustration; some prefer to blindly say the 250 is just the perfect evolution and "the next generation engineered for the future", oblivion to the fact that a proper 300 series exists, just not in the US.

problem solved!!! Choosing one for the drive is the biggest problem. Wife prefers driving 250 over 200 (she’s short), however, she loves the 95(80) & 04(100) too.

Yep, that is what I am most seeing. Guys will buy the 250 for the wives (because they do not like the heaviness tank feel of the 200) and keep the 200 to themselves. Much like in the past the combo 200 his, GX460/4runner hers. I see it every day in the various school pick/drop near me.
I don’t understand why the people who don’t like the 250 & don’t want to own one, keep coming to this sub forum...
To answer OPs original post, I think since you have owned lots of different gens then you can appreciate them in their own unique way. In that regard, it’s a pretty cool leap in a lot of areas. There’s shortcomings as always with any vehicle but it’s a pretty good change up & looks the part to me. I get lots of thumbs up while driving which I didn’t anticipate. My only real gripe has been the rear legroom is tighter than I realized. And for $70k, yeah you’d expect more bells and whistles standard but these inflationary times are what we live in and not a fault of Toyota per se.
But that’s like just my opinion man. Hope you get some more mileage to enjoy it.

Yeah I joined in 2013 so guess I missed that boat. Guess it’s best to just ignore that wildlife and move on to the next.
Nothing new is as good as the old ones. That’s why I will never buy into those flimsy flat screen tvs, with their plastic frames and 4k resolution with 85” screens, hogwash. I am keeping my trusty 21” 450 lb cathode ray tube with the grainy ass screen unit, that’s the real thing!
