Ok, here it is….today while driving the Door Ajar lamp became illuminated. I stopped and checked all doors and the rear hatch. All were confirmed to be shut. However, while running the Door Ajar lamp stayed illuminated.
Then, I noticed that if I stopped and turned the engine off (key still in) the light stayed on and chimes ensued! Curious…Opening the door had no effect. And the steering column stayed in the driving position, it did not “park” itself. But if you pull the key, steering parks and light goes off. All of the above is while still seated in the car. Remove the key, open the door to get out, light and chimes again….close the door once out, and the steering parks and light goes out! Small win there, as there will be no draw on the battery once fully off and locked.
My original thought was that I’d lost a door switches…..but the key in and or out situation points to ignition switch. Has anyone had anything similar? Seems to point to an electrical gremlin, so perhaps the ignition switch (84450-1220)?
Additionally, two days ago I went out to dinner and when leaving the restaurant, I went to start the rig and the key was stiff/stopped. Knowing not to force anything….removed the key flipped it over and it turned and started fine. Adding that into totoday’s events seems to add to the ignition switch having SOMETHING amiss.
The fact that there is an oddity of behavior with the key in or out AND that with the key out and door shut it's behaving correctly makes me think that it's in the switch, not simply the door sensor/switches.
Thoughts? Guidance?
Thanks!
