The little light that illuminates the ring around the key ignition is staying on constantly in my '97 85. Whether the engine is running or not, key in the ignition or not, alarm on or off, etc. Always on. Luckily a small drain on the battery.

I have watched things a bit and I hear a relay "click" about a minute after turning the engine off. I see this is when I loose control of the power windows, and the little "AUTO" illumination in the front driver window switch goes dark. So, I am assuming this is the same relay which would kick off the ignition light?

Is this a matter of switching a relay someplace?

Any help would be appreicated. Thanks!

you have an 85?

Yes, 97 is the 80, Collector's Edition, with the lockers...really sweet. All stock.

I also have '84 and '87 Fj60's.....bought the 80 about a month ago.

I see there is a little rubber "gasket" around the key cylinder, which removes to display a plastic "nut" around the cylinder, and I can see the light "sitting" in the plastic holder. But, I'd prefer to fix the problem at the source, as opposed to removing the wire, and hence the light.

It also occurs to me that it can't be the relay I was initially suspecting, beucase this should turn off a few seconds after the engine starts....not after it shuts off.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
