I dont know if this has been posted before, but both of my 3 button keys for my 03 cruiser broke...plastic separated from the metal key itself. A quick search on ebay yielded many 3 button key blanks for 2003 land cruiser...so the metal key and the black housing without any electronics...for cheap.

Cost...$5/key, a local key cutter charged me $5/key to cut. All in...$22 including taxes. Just unscrewed the small philips screw in the back to swap over the buttons.....like new now. Much better than the $235 the stealership wanted for 1 blank.

I have a '98 -- and I have never solved this problem. I purchased my vehicle used with a single "master" that had been made by a locksmith. It works to start the car, but I never had the 3 button keyless remote key. I purchased two on eBay, had them cut by code by a locksmith, and tried for the life of me to get them programmed. I could get the keyless remote programmed, but I could never get the transponder key programmed -- thus the key could never start the car. The sole key I have in my possession (the one that came with the car) acts like a master (you bring it near the igntiion and there is no delay in the security light going off) -- but like I said, I never could program it -- and after about a month of trying various things I just gave up...

Sure would love to get this working!

You are screwed, must get a third party to flash your immobilizer module, or get it replaced at the dealer to the tune of $1k.

If anyone buys a LC prior to 2003 make sure the dealer fixes this before the sale is complete, or subtracts the costs from the sale price.

My 04 came with a vallet key only. since i wasnt about to drive a cruiser without remote entry, i bit the bullet on the stealership fee. pricey as hell. somewhere in the 250$ range. for something i use every time i use the car, it was worth every penny.

I have the master but want another remote key, how much does the dealer charge for an additional remote? Was that the $250 you paid???

In the later models there is no longer the concept of "master" keys. The dealer can program the ECU for any new keys regardless if you have any of the original keys.

With that said, they are two types of keys available; valet key (immobilizer, but no keyless entry), and remote key (immobilizer and keyless entry). The remote's are around $250. I got mine from CDan when I bought my 2004 (came with one FOB and one valet), and can't remember exactly what I paid but it was in that ballpark. I then picked up a remote blank key shell on eBay out of China for $3. Had both the blank shell and new complete remote cut at the local dealer based on VIN and good to go. Effectively ended up with two brand new looking remote keys.

New from the dealer you get two valets and two remotes. I don't care enough to order another valet. The single one I have is in a hidden box under the LC. I'm the only person who drives the LC so two remotes is more than enough.
