my 62 is in the shop and the mechanic says he thinks the problem is a bad igniter coil (the truck shut off on me going down the highway last week ). its not a cheap part, he can get one for $270 new. anybody know where i can get a used or remanufactured one or is there a way to fix without replacing the part/best course of action here? any help is appreciated.
thanks.

Edit: just remembered something...at the garage there was an old fj40 there that looked like it hadnt moved in about 20years, might there be a compatible igniter coil that could be cleaned up and used in that thing?

Cruiserparts sells tested used ones for $100. Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 FJ62 Parts For Sale

They also show a "as new, take-off with 500 miles on it
for $200.

I'm not affiliated with them and have had no dealings with them.
I've heard good and bad. Your call, but I'd try it if it were me.

Otherwise, post a request in the Parts Wanted section of the list.

Almost any toyota ignitor will work (similar vintage) (might need to replace some of the plugs)

Minitrucks have a nice compact unit that is integrated with a coil.

Update to the new Performance Distributor ignitor and coil: 3FE Firepower Ignition Kit

I'm running this ignition with a MSD coil and Magnecor wires (Performance Distributor says that the MSD coil was almost exactly the same as theirs) with the plugs gapped to .065. Adds about 2-3 degrees of coil on time to increase spark energy. There is a noticeable improvement, particularly when the engine is cold or at higher rpms. It's not going to make it a V8 but it does give it a little extra pep.

thanks for all the quick respones! moby im lookin at that ignition kit. sounds cool, but i just dont have the money to toss at it. i just need a functional vehicle right now.

Hey, last year this time i replaced my dizzy with a DUI and kept all my parts if you need them fast i can over night them tommorrow. if they work for you then you can send me the money for the parts as long as you pay for shipping.... from 32256(jax,Fl)
