Hi there IH8ers, I need some help identifying the steering box on my recently acquired 84 Nissan 720 SAS. I know I'll get s*** for posting a Nissan question in the Toy section, but my front axle
is from an 83 Toy and I'm sure i'll get more views/help in this section. The box is not a Toy box from what I can tell. I'm installing a Trail Gear hy steer soon and I'm thinking I might also need to install a Toy steering box. I wish I knew more about the truck, but it's been passed around to so many people, I dont know the original person that built it. The box only has two sets of cast id #'s. The one on the top of the box is "A210" and the other is on the fluid return line input "4216" It's a 3 bolt mount.
I would like to rebuild/reuse this box if at all possible, rather than drilling more holes in my frame to mount a Toy box, but I need to know what I have before I can rebuild it. I have been searching the net for days and cant find a match. I have a feeling I'll end up with a Toy box after all, but I'd like to keep
my options open. Any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,
-FishHead

this one is a genuine toyota IFS steering gear

yours is not.

search around the web for how to drill and tap yer box for hydro assist. maybe you will find this misfit's manufacturer.

FYI all toyota steering gears say TOYODA on em ;)

your right, and judging from the other shotty welds and bits of scrapmetal stuck to the rest of the truck, it looks a hell of a lot nicer, to lead me believe either some one who knew how to operate a welder did it of the factory did.

but i am NOT a nissan guy, so i do not know what kind of things they did or didnt do...

TEEHEE
yea those are some grade A buger welds, the one to the right of the box looks to be a former shock hoop mount that was cut off.

Yeah, lots of poor welds... It could very well be a stock IFS Nissan Box, but the steering shaft was lengthened to accommodate this box. So that leads me to believe it's not stock. I'll see if I cant find another 84 around here and compare the two. Any chance one of you could list the Toy box 3 hole mounting dimensions from the center of each hole, I'll most likely end up mounting a Toy box in the end. Thanks for your help.

So I dont have a removed IFS box, but I was able to measure the lengths on the box mounts and use the SIN of a refrenced angle to find all the specs and such, keep in mind these are aproximations. You can use this chart to draw up a triangle to refrence the mount.

If you call trail gear they may able to help as well.

Side Angle

A 4" a 62.5

B 2.5" b 33.8

C 4.5" c 83.73

Hey thanks Caleb, that info helps alot. TG can fab a new pitman arm for my box , but I'm just going with a toy box after all. Thanks again y'all
