If you had to buy a TRUCK

I just bought an 08 Tundra Crew Max Limited TRD and I love it. One owner AZ truck with 112k and all scheduled maintenance done on time. There were lots of other good trucks too in the valley. I just had pick which one I liked best. Added 295/70R18 Toyo Open Country A/T II, Slee Sliders, 2.5" front/2" rear lift and made the grill not chrome. I have had 1 ton diesel trucks in the past and had the same debate you are. My needs sound similar to yours. The 1/2 ton is really all the truck I am going to need with hopefully a boat in future and a 20' trailer for projects as what I would haul. What sold me though on the Tundra was helping my buddy put the same lift on his 07 Tundra work truck with 230k miles. Not a drop of grime under his truck and he hasn't had any issue with it since he bought it new. That plus my LX has 213k and running strongly made Toyota again a no brainer for me.

I LOVE my 2002 F350 Dually 4x4 CC with the 7.3 and John Wood upgraded transmission... but ONLY because I actually max it out with a load or towing several times a month. For anything else? We are still beating on my 1995 T 100. Starts and drives. Every time. Hate to think of the unkind things I've done to that truck. If I had to go buy a truck tomorrow for anything but towing over 10,000 lbs or carrying more than a ton and a half in the bed on a regular basis, I'd get a slightly used 4x4 5.7 Tundra.

I'm obviously biased, but there are only two choices for me in a 3/4 ton plus. PW or F250. Why? Solid front axle. If you do 3k a year off-road like I do, it tears the s*** out of an independent from my experience. Never again with a GM either. The PW is as unique IMHO as the 80. Lockers, disconnecting sway, factory lift, not C-clipped, 12k Warn, nice transfer case, ample storage and rear seat leg room. 6.4 is plenty potent. Price, heck you can get a Tradesman real reasonable, even mid-grade like I have is still, well, as reasonable as pickups are these days. Dunno, a Tundra is pretty much as much of a parts bin truck as any of the other big 3.
