Can i just remove the belt from the Compressor on the front of the motor or is the more to it than that.???

AS long as the belt does not run anything else that is fine...

But, is the compressor siezed? If not, then there is no reason to even remove that belt...

Mace is right I wouldn't remove it unless it is seized. If you turn on your AC (push the blue button while blowing air) do you hear the compressor engage but no cold air? If the cruiser is stock then most likely the belt just turns the AC compressor.

If you do cut the belt then I think you will have to removed other belts to put a new one on if and when you fix it. If you don't plan on using the AC for a long time then it might save some wear on the compressor pulley to unhook the belt.

yeah its stock and the ac is ran by a belt by itself......I don't think that that it engages, if it doesn't i need to remove the belt?? The PO told me what was wrong with it but i can't remember right now......NoCal you are right about the cutting of the belt....if i remove it i will have to remove other belts to replace it when the time comes to fix it.

If it doesn't engage then you have another problem. When it is not engaging the pulley is just spinning on the end of the compressor. Does the blue button light up when you push it in with the fan running? It could be something simple. If the compressor is just not engaging and you still have a tight system with freon in it then you could have AC if you get the compressor to enage. You can hear it when it engages and the ilde changes some with the added load. Also you can check the connection at the compressor to make sure it is plugged in... and the fuse.

I would try and get it working. It is nice to have depending on where you live.

In the other thread going now they said it will not engage without being charged with freon.

Mine is low, I get a light, and no way am I cutting the belt off.

Just leave it alone until you get it charged.

well i went out and started it today.....I turned the fan on an pushed the blue button...the light came on, I don't think it ever engaged. Is the idle change very noticeable like in a mini truck with a 3.0??

Thanks

If the belt is on and doesn't make any strange sounds when the engine is running, I'd leave the belt on and have the refrigerant charge checked. It could just be low on freon.

I would only remove the belt if the clutch is seized or if the compressor is about to be replaced. Otherwise, you have to remove two other belts to replace your compressor belt. Check the easy stuff first.

I have to replace my compressor in the next couple of weeks. That ain't no fun.

leave the hood popped, turn the engine on, look at the front of the AC compressor, the pulley shoudl be spinning but the very front part of the AC unit should not be spinning. That is the clutch that engages when the compressor is working

Turn the AC button on, temp to cold, fan on and then go check that same part of the pulley and see if it is now spinning. if it isn't, you need to figure out if power is getting to the compressor.

Time for a test light..

And

call the PO on the phone. their info is not always spot on but sometimes they will actually give up useful information (especially since the sale no longer depends upon what they say or don't say).

both my PO and his PO told me that my system still had the original 12 in it... both were wrong and the system was fully charged with no leaks and full of 134A. now i am getting the test light ready...

^luckily i have a good PO, he gave the truck to me so he had nothing to loose telling me anything....i just can't remember what he said. The truck might not be in thebest condition but it has had somethings done to it that i need to call and talk to him about, and this time write it down.....

Wait--are you talking about a 60 or a mini?

You should notice a significant idle change either way.

I am talking about my 60 series, the only reason i brought up my mini is because i have never owned a 2F before and i was wondering if the idle would change on it about the same as the idle does on my Mini Truck.

Thanks for the advice, ill check that when i get home.

hey....called the PO....best in the world......he said that back in app. 1990 he was having it charged and the seals ruptured....he had the seals replaced and recharged the system.....a little while later(a few months to a couple years - forgot to ask) the compressor started making noise and he quit using it.

So i figure it is low on freon so the system won't even turn on and second the compressor is probably seized up.
