Idiot Youtuber drills holes in cheap compressor to make it more like an ARB

Nice review!
Sorry Jake, but I still like my double ARB mounted compressor!

I got the bigger brother 5.65 CFM Smittybilt 2781 and it's awesome. They regularly went on sale for $110-125. I don't hard mount anything as this compressor easily shared between vehicles.

The ARB Dual is well worth the cost IMHO. It’s a lot for most to swallow but they are rugged and last so you can swap them from one vehicle to the next as needed when you sell and move on. The one in my GX is in it’s third vehicle since new.

They are nice. Just not sure I could justify $600 to air up 32" tires 10-15 times a year. I went this direction because I could effectively buy 5 of the 2780's for the same cost as your double and only loose 3ish minutes difference in fill time. If I do an onboard 4 tire air-up system I'll probably be faster than walking an ARB hose to each tire. Also... I thought hacking up a brand new compressor would be funnier. If mine dies by next summer you'll have been right and I will have new video material so we both win : )

Thanks!

If I was an engineer I’d have the best too. As I’m not, I must beer engineer ; )
I'm sorry, Jake, but I have to give you engineer kudos for the creativity and knowledge of understanding that you needed a pressure switch, and different quick releases and then executing that little project. Most people wouldn't even know where to start much less realize there are different quick release fitting and they all look very similar (which doesn't make it any easier).
So, good on-ya!

There you go Jake!! You can purchase one for each tire AND the spare, wire them all to one switch and hit the "happy" button to fill all tires at once!:D

I paid under $500 new for mine with the "Make an Offer" option on eBay. But I get where you're coming from, each of us has a differing opinion on what something is worth in terms of value. In the words of Warren Buffett, "Price is what you pay, value is what you get."

Well, I would point out that buying it from anywhere but an authorized retailer probably voids the warranty, but then again, I just put out a video of me drilling holes in mine with a beer in my hand... so...

I bought from an authorized dealer. Like anything, warranties are only as good as the company behind them and/or luck of the draw with whomever is handling your claim lol.

Great video. Keep the updates coming!

I was reading on another forum (Tacomaworld iirc) about the troubles with recent ARB compressors and the dubious claims of the 100% duty cycle. Did ARB switch manufacturers? I was surprised because I always thought ARB was synonymous with bullet proof. I could be convinced on the price of an ARB, but nfw if its not a lifetime-grade tool.

Three plus years in three different vehicles and mine is still rock solid. I remember reading a while back about a few newer production units that were having issues. I guess it's possible they had a vendor issue for some parts or simply something wrong with assembly, who knows.

Subscribed. I have the same pump and set it up to do two tires at once. Very interested in doing the shutoff pressure switch. It has made it through one 700mi trip already w/o problems and with good performance. 2013 GX. 32" Falkens

Stay tuned. She's installed under the hood now. Working through how to install the 4 whell air up system. Total cost all in is at $370 including 4 wheel air up parts and compressor.

I've considered an all wheel inflation setup, but, for me anyways, I think it'll be too much hose having to deal with.
The coiling and uncoiling trying to keep everything in order and not tangled. One idea would be to run hard/fixed line from the compressor to under your rig so there was a quick release near each wheel well. Then you'd only need a short hose for each tire. :meh:
But, let's see how Jake does it!
I think you should call all your videos: "Jake's Take" and use that as a preface for your video titles, e.g. Jake's take on air compressors, Jake's take on racks, Jake's take on (well I think you get the idea...) :p
