“MORE SMILES PER GALLON”

On offer is is a near complete kit including 5-speed H151 transmission with HF1A (part time) transfer case. Sourced out of a 2007 80 series.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Owners of late model 80 Series and LX 450s can benefit from a swap from the Aisin 4 speed automatic, which is durable and long-lived, but takes a toll in responsiveness, fuel economy and tower to the wheels.

In the USA, Toyota did not offer a manual transmission in these models. All other markets had the option of a five speed manual transmission and part time transfer case.

The swap kit on offer is a complete transmission and transfer case package suitable for US models. This popular option can provide an overall improved driving experience, along with improved power and fuel economy.

When installing the kit, purchase has the option of converting from full time to part time four wheel drive through use of the included HF1A transfer case. This requires of addition of suitable CV joints and manual locking hubs. Benefits of this modification can include additional fuel economy, improved handling and reduced wear on front axle and components.

The swap / install is within the skillset of many home mechanics and no fabrication or customizations should be needed.

Very nice. Do you have info on the H152?
Mileage? Condition? ie has it been opened up/inspected?

Thank you!

Thanks. H151. No info on points raised.

Some of these parts are unobtainable new and very hard to find used. This is a very affordable alternative to a diesel swap, and would make a future diesel swap much easier for the end user. The above diagram explains the difference with pinpoint accuracy!

What market had 80 series made in 2007 ? I thought they stopped in 1997 but I am guessing soeone kept them ?

Sorry, I was off by a year. They were built by Toyota in Venezuela until 2006.

You can see parts numbers and lots of detail here via Toyota DIY

Thanks, thats pretty cool they kept making them that late, never stop learning .

How's my pricing?
Very fair. I was shopping both all new OEM from overseas vendors and packages here in the US. Especially with a transfer case, driveshafts, cluster and crossmember - I still need to source/fab all that.

Couple of correspondents have enquired about my sanity and / or decision making regarding why in the name of the all holy I would spend upwards of $10k to replace a relatively functional 4 speed automatic with a three pedal DIY shifter.

OK, here it is. My two most favorite LCs have been two 3F carby / H55 equipped rigs (JDM fire trucks) for a simple reason - they were fun to drive. What I didn't love was the cattle car leaf springs, no power steering, so-so seats. When I bought the LX for the project I knew that any daily driver I had would need to be a manual. Yes, I have had a bunch of great, modern, automatic vehicles over the years, but they were not fun. The LC 80 Series chassis, suspension and axles were what I wanted along with a manual trans / part time TC and some decent seats.

The goal was a sporty, manual driving experience with decent suspension and comfy seats. When the turbo kit became unavailable, I went a different direction.

Thanks for the sanity check

Will the ecu (86991-60281) be plug and play? Will it work on the factory USDM spec auto harness and will the tachometer work and CEL be off?
Thanks in Advance.

I have been told that answers are all yes. Along with cruise control.

Awesome. So I assume it should work with OBDII and Oxygen sensored equipped fzj80s, here in the states(to pass smog inspections)? Sorry, just want to be sure before I pull the trigger. Thanks again!

Yes, I was told it is plug and play.

I get it but not a tech guy. Suggest you reach out to @orangefj45 - Georg Esterer at Valley Hybrids in Stockton.
