Hey guys I want to trailer my GTR that weighs about 4800 pounds. So I have to factor in the weight of the trailer It will be a lighter aluminum trailer. I want to go from nj to fl. also I have a 3" Rc lift. Should I replace my rear springs to stiffer ones? Thanks for any info....

I don't think you'll have much issue as long as you can center the car on the trailer so that the trailer is supporting the weight of the car not your rig. Make sure your trailer is long enough so the car can be centered on the axles and not on the tongue. Your problem will lie in the braking system if your trailer isn't equipped with brakes. But if it is you should be good to go.

The longest drive I ever had in my FJ Cruiser was when I decided to flat tow my Jeep TJ. Too short of a wheelbase.

There are guys out there that tow their boats with FJCs but they all have trailer brakes. Seems to manditory for anything with any weight to it.

As a side note, fuel mileage instantly goes to single digits the minute I put any form of trailer on the FJC.

Doc

Dammmm Okok. So I think I'm ganna skip on the trailer thing. I was ganna try renting a trailer an trying it out and just see Wut Happeneds ?

Well even rental trailers will have a brake system if they're big enough. You'll just need to get a brake controller for the fj

If the GTR weighs 4800 lbs and your renting a car trailer from uhaul or something like that, you are going to be way over the 5500lb max for a FJC. They dont rent aluminum trailers......or at least I've never seen one from them. I would either drive the GTR or rent a bigger truck.

Most of the rentals have surge brakes, it would be really easy to add any wiring that may be needed (you may already have everything you need)

okok thanks for the info guys. i dont no wut im ganna do yet

That 4800 lbs for your Nissan sounds a little steep. Is that the gvwr (gross vehicle weight rating)? Or the curb weight?

Wikipedia says 3800lbs.....so he may have made a typo. Still the trailer according to uhaul's site is 2200lbs. 6000lbs is al ot to pull with a FJC

Yea it's 3800 I'm sorry. So should I just try it out? Or just drive the fj down. I also have 33s and a Rc 3 inch lift.

As said above...the short wheelbase of the FJC won't be the best for towing a long, heavy load. You would be best advised to use a brake controller at the least. Yet, you are above the rated load which is ill-advised and towing a long load with a short wheel based rig. It will pull the load but you will have a huge challenge controlling the trailer if you have to quick stop, let alone a panic stop under less than dry conditions. Can't even consider if you had to do a quick lane change.

Will you make it? Probably, would it be well advised, no...
