I recently removed the factory roof rack from my LX570, and I installed a Land Cruiser OEM rack. The sealant under the factory mounting hardware was an extremely thin piece of rubber, or some type of dried sealant that appears rubberized. There were only fragments of this factory Sealant left on the Land Cruiser parts, so I removed what remained to have a clean mounting surface.

For installation, I put a thin layer of 80011 Permatex on the roof around the bolt holes, and on the parts themselves before installing and tightening down. I could see the Permatex ooze out around the parts, and I know there is a good layer under each snugged down part.

I chose Permatex after reading some threads on installation, but am now questioning its use after seeing other threads.

It seems like a good seal, and there is no gap under these tightened parts. Water intrusion seems unlikely, and vehicle is garage kept.

Should I leave what I've done, or redo and use a silicone or actual RTV?

Looking for opinions here.

Thanks for any input!
